Stolen Doors!!

I live in Alabama and had my doors stolen off my 98 TJ the other day. I have a few questions. If I turn in on insurance will my rates go up? I had half doors and have always wanted full steel doors, will I be able to get the full or will they know I had half doors because of a vin # or something? Also when I get my new doors I need some locks. Tuffy locks seem popular but don't look to be much of a deterent. Bottom line if they want it they will get it but what is the best door security/lock out there from ya'lls experience? Thanks

First off...around here, honesty's the best policy, so I would tell the insurance co what you lost, and use the check as a start to build up to the hard doors. Second, I usually have my doors offlol...sems to keep them from wondering off ;)

Even if they can tell from the vin# what doors you had, you can just say that you had bought full steel doors, to replace the half doors, and they are the ones that were stolen. Personally, that is what I would do--they would never know

if you look at quadratrac there's 1299 for half doors and 2K for full steel doors. I'll bet half doors from teh stealership will be close to 2K. I'd be honest and either use the check to buy a good set of used doors or just pay the difference. You get caught you might not get anything..... I would have no qualms about screwing the insurance company if you could do it without getting caught; they are all thieves as far as I'm concerned, but there's the risk they might find out and then you're really up a creek.

If you wanted the doors on all the time, try welding the nut on the bottom of the hinge. I personally leave my doors off, unless I see rain coming our way.

Turn it in on the insurance for sure. Don't worry about the rates. I doubt they will go up. It's not like you had a wreck or anything.

BTW... I came across a nice set of doors the other day while eating at the Rocket. They will fit a 98 TJ. $200 obo.

Yes turn it in to your Insurance. get a quote from the Stealership then buy After market :-D. then you aren't commiting fraud

You could put the nut on the bottom of the doors, but then the theif only has to unscrew 6 bolts and he has a new set of doors and hinges! The full doors in Q-tec are prolly not color matched to your vehicle. So if you plan on getting matching ones from the dealership... plan on paying more than q-tec's price (~$3k is my guess).

C

ps. the best theft deterrent is no doors. sorry for your loss.

2000 WRANGLER SAHARA..MUST SELL

I don't think you have to worry about it if they are Torx bolts. They will never get them out.
If you are seriously worried about it then get the tuffy lock or a bolt and nut and use red Loctite on all the bolts. They can't get them off for sure after you do that, but then neither can you.

stupid stupid stupid theives. if i went outside some night and found someone jacking my doors i would have to open fire!!!!! you know it wasnt a JEEPER that did it because we dont do that crap to other jeeps.

does anyone have the tuffy door locks?

true.......but let me elaborate on that one. i am not talking about some guy that bought a jeep just because he thought that it was cool. when i say jeeper im talking about guys/gals like us who own jeeps because they truly love jeeps. there is a difference.

plus look at it from a thieves stand point. what is the easiest car part to steal and also the most profitable. it takes a whole minute to grab a pair of jeep doors, and you can sell them for atleast 500 bucks.

Yup, I gotta agree with that. There is a large market for any type of car doors and hoods around the Wichita, KS area. And believe me, they don't hesitate to steal locked doors off of cars, either.

I'd go ahead and turn it in to your insurance, then explain to them that you want the check signed over to you, so that you can upgrade to full doors. Generally, they'll be more than happy to do that, as they are considered a better alternative and less of a break-in risk. Otherwise, at least with my insurance, they just pay whatever shop you get the parts at directly, and you never see any money from them. That's why my insurance company got stuck paying over $700 for a replacement top that I could have bought at QuadraTec for $650....and they only paid half, I paid the rest!! It's being investigated by the Kansas Insurance Commissioner right now for fraud. Both the body shop that replaced it, and the company that sold it to them, as the seller jacked the price up over 50% from retail, and there's no way they paid retail for it, so the total was most likely a 65-70% jack-up! Ah, but I digress......

I have the tuffy locks. Bought them from qtech for my 88yj. They are still unused because the design is so crappy they are worthless. If anyone wants them I will let them go at half the price of Qtec.

In terms of the stealerships prices on doors, my friend had his doors stolen last week off of a 95 YJ and he was quoted $1500 for FULL door replacement. I was quite impressed that it was actually cheaper.
