New trip means new sig pic. The wife and I went to Hot Springs last weekend for a little relaxation withOUT our 2 year old. She thought it would be fun to go there to do a little shopping, do the spa thing and drive around looking at all the leaves changing colors. That's her idea of fun, although, since we were in the Jeep the leaf tour wasn't too bad. 50 degrees and the top down, gotta love it.
Well, she knew that Superlift was there to keep me occupied while she checked out the shops and the hot springs. I love my wife.
Most of what I've done in a 4wd has been in the flatlands of Memphis in the dirt and mud. There wasn't much of that here. I don't know if all places are graded the same but here it is 1-5 diamonds. According to the chart, the three trails recommend "moderate experience, 32 inch tires and rear lockers." Since I have none of that and I was by myself, I figured on sticking to the ones and twos.
I started out on a one trail that was little more than a gravel road through the woods. I found the closest two and took it. It was a big loop that took about 30 minutes or so to traverse. It was mostly rocky terrain with a few mud puddles here and there to make it interesting. There were a couple of areas that I really didn't think my little Jeep would make it up but I just stayed in the gas and prayed I didn't roll over backwards and chugged on up. Probably about half way through I realized the reason I was having some trouble on some of the inclines was I was in 4hi. Wow, that made a huge difference, 4lo almost made it seem easy. Almost.
I went on a few other similar trails and then decided to head back and maybe find the wife and bring her back. She would probably enjoy most of what I had just finished. As I was looking at the map figuring the way out a couple of tjs come buy and wave. One was a Rubi that looked stock except for a winch and he had his wife and 2 1/2 year old daughter with him. The other was a Sport with 33s and 2in lift and a winch and they had their 11 year old daughter and a friend of hers in the back. So I figured I could go pretty much wherever they went and that they wouldn't do anything too crazy with the kids so I asked the second guy If I could follow. Sure no problem they say. We stop a chat for a few and then they decide to go on this three nearby. They say I can make it no problem.
WOW! And I thought the twos were "fun". My Jeep did things I didn't know she could do. Over boulders, up hills, in and out of ditches I was impressed if not a little nervous. I was in the middle of the three of us and the first guy with the Sport didn't have much trouble on most things but when he did I knew it'd be tougher for me. I think it was more of my inexperience in some of it, just not knowing the exact line to take. I had to back up a few time and try again to get up some hills. Of course the Rubi just drove right up and out every time out of the areas I had trouble. Lockers do help I see.
To get out of this was a hill that became worse than it looked. You had to go up past a boulder on the right, through two trees on the left, over a pretty smooth boulder with the right wheels and then shoot up to the cross road above. The first guy got caught up at the trees but after a few back up and try agains, he got it. I got caught up in the same place. We tried putting some tree limbs under the tires there but I just couldn't get through. Everytime I'd get to the same spot, the tires would start spinning. Once, I bounced into one of the trees. Just a little dent on the front of the right fender. Pulled it right out. They finally had to winch me past that spot and then I made it ok. The Rubi just drove right through like it was flat ground. Dangit, I almost bought one to.
I can't even imagine what the 4 and 5 trails look like. Certainly nothing I'd want to take my daily driver on. I really had alot of fun and would go back with the wife on the 1 and 2s but never by myself and probably not with the wife on the 3s. I don't think she could handle it.
As I was finishing the twos, before I met up with the others, I thought to my self, "I didn't get stuck and I didn't damage anything. I must not have been doing it right." Well, that all changed. Thank goodness.
I took a few pics but you can't really tell too much.
I saw this in my mirror coming out of a trail. It kinda freaked me out but then realized it means this was the exit only.
I've bored you enough, just wanted to let you guys know I had a really good time out there and will be going back.
