Throttle Position Sensor

Thanks in advance for your help.
My 94 JeepCherLtd-5.2 just came up with a code 24-TPS.
My Chiltons says you can check the voltage on the sensor.
I am completely unfamiliar with checking voltages on a vehicle. Would
standard voltmeter do this?

Also, the book says that you can make adjustments to the TPS by loosening the mounting screws and adjusting it until the appropriate voltage appears? Any advice in going this route before dropping more $ on a new sensor?
thanks a million!

Never seen any adjustments for the TPS, but I have no experience with that v8. I'd just buy a new sensor.

Hi

I'm not sure about the V8 engines, but on the I6 engines the TPS IS adjustable. It adjusts by loosening the two torx bolts and then pivoting the sensor to achieve the correct output voltage at closed throttle.

The TPS may have 3 or 4 wires depending on if you've got a manual or auto transmission. On the three wire models, one wire is ground, one wire is constant 5 volt hot, and the last is a varied voltage output to the ECU (between like 0.7 and 5 volts).

With the throttle closed, the TPS should be outputing about 0.7 volts on the third wire to the ECU. If it is outputting more or less, you just pivot the sensor until correct then retighten the two screws.

As I said, don't know if this will be applicable to the V8 engines, but maybe it'll help anyways
