Had my Oil done at a place and the guy said i may need a thermostat... he didn't try to offer me one per se but i wonder why he thought this? the heater works fine....the A/C doesn't but i think it just need a re-charge...

any idea why someone doin my Oil suggested this? what are some other signs its gone bad?

No leaks?, i would imagine that he saw a leak around the t-stat gasket or it's running hotter than the normal operating temperature. OR he didn't think you'd be asking questions.

I'm with Steelheadz. With no leaks how could he tell. Usually you will find the motor running hot or at least hotter than normal, or the temp will go up until you race the motor a couple of times to get the force of the water pump to push open the sticky (rusty) spring allowing the coolant flow and the temp to come down again until next time.

I can't read his mind, but there's a couple thoughts.
if it runs hot:
they had a batch of bad radiators (95) the fins rotted off and engine runs hot.

if it runs cold:
I have my engine apart at 122K to find sludge...breathers in the intake may be good EPA, but it sucks for sludge. perhaps he thought a hotter thermostat might be an answer.

breather carbon in the intake craps up the butterfly and eventually migrates to the valve seats. just a heads up.
