Tradin my YJ for a grand cherokee

I've decided to sell my YJ and get something a little more confortable like a ZJ. What I want to know is what is the most amount of lift you can put on one between the years 92 and 98ish? I'm lookin to put 33's under one. Now I'm used to YJ specs so would the driveline modifications be the same as a YJ with around 3.5-4" lift?

I know you can go 4.5" lift on a ZJ... that's the biggest I've seen advertized.. and since 30's fit with no lift, that should tell ya how big you can go.

hey guys, i just put a 3" in my 93 zj. save money, the procomp 3"xj front coils work under the front of the zj beautifully. move the front stock coils to the rear to get a healthy 3.5" out back, buy the hardware kit with the front track bar relocation bracket and lower links. keep in mind that the magic number for the zj is 4", anything more and you are almost certain to run into drive line issues. nagca.com has alot of great reference stuff. I run 31s with no issues at all. no brake line changes or abs wiring issues, just unclip and retoute the wiring. ramped an 846 on the 20 degree with rear sway bar removed and front undone. a few quick facts about the rear tracking: using the stock rear brackets and bar are acceptableup to 4" however the geometry of the rear end dictates that itwill shift o.2"for every inch of lift, so you do the math, I cut up near the top eye and sleeved it, then rewelded it roughly 5/8" longer. this maintained the proper clearance around the pumpkin and to hide the extension behind the gas tank where the boys in blue can't see it!my alignment stats came to within 1/64 of true tracking. any questions email me at yendor_kroc@canada.com

I did the front to rear coil swap like newbie mentioned above to get the use of a 3" skyjacker lift I put in a XJ I am now going to retire. I had some problems with death wobble(see forum post 94ZJ rear end death wobble for problems I encountered) It works great now but if I did not allready have this lift I would have gone with a 3" standard lift from skyjacker. It comes with shocks so you get the full suspension travel, lower control arms, springs, and front track bar relocation bracket. The only difference from the XJ kit and ZJ kit is the rear springs and lower control arms the front is all the same parts.

just put a 2" budget boost on my 96zj this weekend. have 31" tires on the way. i'll let you know how that works out for me.

i'd consider what newbie said if you wanna go 3+, cause otherwise, for a good 4.5" lift on a zj, you're gonna be shelling out some dough. the rubicon express 4.5" lift is around $1400, and the longarm 4.5" is about $2500. if you get the idea. i'm sure you might be able to find something cheaper, but rubicon express makes good stuff, and the kits are all inclusive for everything you'll need.

so for 33's, just be prepared to shell out some serious green. and like i said, once i get my 31's on under the lift i just installed, i'll tell you how that performs. do you definately want 33s over 31s? i mean bigger is always nicer, but it might only matter if you have a certain trail in mind if you catch my drift. 31's will perform nicely.

I definitely want to put on some 33s because I'm going to be goin to school within 30 mins of Tellico. I'm hoping to have enough money left over after selling my YJ to afford a 3.5" lift and then put on 2 inch coil spacers and also new driveshafts. What's the gear ration in ZJ axles?

hey guys, depending on the diffs you have the most common ratio in the zj's are 3:55s. the dana 30 offers two sizes of carrier, up to 3:55 and over 3:55, so its good to make sure of your ratio before ordering internals, asfar as i know the rear uses a similar system, for a little extra grab, tear apart the clutch pacs in the trac lok and make sure they are reinstalled as: clutch, disc, clutch, disc.....and so on. in some diffs they were assembled with two clutch discs together to reduce harshness. but this also limited the diffs ability to lock into posi mode. i plan on adding a 1.75" spacer to mine as well threw on some homemade bumpers this weekend which weighed her down a little! soon to be remedied though!

anywhere i can find out what my zj has for axles on it? its a 96 laredo with the full time all wheel drive t-case if that helps. i'm assuming it wouldnt be part of the vin# code. but is there a site that lists stock axles or something?

honestly, write jeep and give them the VIN... i did that and they send me a list of all the options it came with.
