Transfer case fluid?

94 YJ with AX5 transmission and 231 transfer case. I know the transmission specs call for 75w-90-API GL5 gear oil but have been told that the transfer case uses Mercon transmission fluid. This is what I thought but also was told you can use the same oil in the transfer case AND the transmission. Any info and additional recomendations as to fluid types would be great.

Synchromesh or a good synthetic like Redline MT90 for the transmission. Don't use any old GL5 as it could be corrosive to the soft brass synchronizers in the transmission.

Dexron/Mercon ATF for the transfer case.
