I have a 1986 CJ7, 258 inline 6, 4 speed transmission, and a Dana 300 Transfercase. I am currently in the process of totally rebuilding the engine and have the entire drive train removed from the chasis. I am not a rock crawler or extreme 4X4 adventurer. I do use 4wd but not on a everday basis. I am hoping to restore my CJ to an everyday driver. Alright the question I am trying to ask is why I have my transmission and transfer case removed what maintenance is recommeded to help prevent a future problem. I am by no means an expert mechanic but trying to learn as much as I can through this process. Thanks for the advice!!
