I replaced my clutch on 85 CJ7 Laredo 4 speed due to when I let out the clutch it sounds like continuous clicking on the flywheel. It happens when stopped in neutral, driving in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. As soon as I push in the clutch it stops. It does not do it in 4th (quiet as a mouse). Put it all back together and it still does the exact same thing. The pressure plate and throw out bearing were completely worn out, but exact same noise. If you are a transmission guru or have dealtwith the same problem and had it rectified please chime in. The transmission was rebuilt about 20 years ago but the vehicle sat for about 14 of those years off and on.
Any advice that might keep me out of a transmission shop would be greatly appreciated.
