How do I troubleshoot why my rear tailgate lock isn't working? The tailgate closes but when I turn it to lock it, I can't turn it enough to engage the locking mechanism.

What model/year jeep. You could put it in your sig or fill out the section in the user CP

Assuming you have a TJ, just remove the cover on the back of the lock and look for any problems.

Had the same issue on my 91 yj when I first got it,looked it over real good and it turned out that the whole mechanism was loose,tightened a couple of screws holding the lock in,problem solved.

yj is basically the same set up. pull the metal black cover and check the mechanism. there will be a little rod connecting the lock to the latch, it was not connected on my wife's when we got it

Try some WD40 in the cylinder.

Got it fixed, pulled the cover and sprayed some WD40 wiggling the stuff around. Thanks everyone.
