hey guys, new here and need some help. i just bought a '77 cj-5 and while we were pushing it back around the garage we noticed that when we turned the corner that the thing wouldn't go. we finally figured out that when we had the wheels turned hard the nubs on the tires would hit on the leaf springs and bind up.

is there a spacer i can use to bump the tires out a little without affecting the functionality of the jeep? or should i just get a little thinner tires?

This is a common issue with narrow track axles(pre 1980). There's a few things you can do. Yes narrower tires may do the trick, but the "offset" on your wheels may also be an issue.
Also there should be an adjustable "stopper" on the backside of your front brake housing.

TLCj5 is correct. I had this issue when i was running with 35X 12.5 15's on my 81 CJ7. I fixed it with an offset wheels and that did the trick however, when i switched to the 35X 14.5 15's the issue came back. I fixed that with wheel spacers.

Both are correct... If you have 12.50" wide tires then you will need a 10" rim (you probably have 8" now). The 14.50" wide tires need 12" rim which are hard to find anymore. If you dont want new rims then spacers will do the trick also.. I would stay below 2" with the spacers though.
somewhere on you sidewalls it should tell you the recommended rim size.
