RE: Slip Yoke

This WILL happen, my friends, some local acquaintences and my El Paso club are in the midst of planning this.

Target date: End of March '05. A more solid date will materialize in Jan or Feb.

Area: Western New Mexico in the Northeastern Gila Forest. Near Quemado Lake.

Map: Quemado Lake, New Mexico

Directions: Go south from Albuquerque on Interstate 25 to Socorro and turn west on U.S. 60 toward Quemado. Turn south on SR 32 at Quemado and go 14 miles to SR 103 and turn east. It's four miles to the lake and campground. Out of marshmallows? Don't worry, Snuffy's general store has them and other necessities.

Elevation: 7,800 feet

We have a friend who lives there with a very capable garage incase of breakdown.

Hotels are near by for those who don't wish to camp.

Fishing for those who like to fish: One of Outside Mag's "Top Ten Lakes to go to before you die."

What you will need: Food, camping gear/motel money, rig, tools and beer.
There are camping fees, like 5 or 10 bucks..I don't remember.

Tone of the trip: To have fun! This isn't going to be a dry trip, there will be drinking AFTER TRAILING ONLY. (None of my friends are outrageous drinkers any way, but I know some people are super conservative about that aspect)

Post on this thread if interested! I have friends coming in from Colorado, El Paso, Arizona and Houston to attend this one!

This will most likely be adventure trailing, as I can't find any hard maps online...but many go wheeling out there and say it's wonderful!
I've personally been out there several times fishing and camping. But never wheeled.

RE: West Coast Jeepz Location

That's a cool picture. Is that the area you're wanting to wheel at?

If so, maybe I'll have a tow rig by then and can bring my truck down. How many days will it last?

Yeah it'll be in and around that area. It'll probably last 3-4 days...maybe more. That would be a blast!!

Well right now I'm trying to sell my lowered F150, then I'll buy something that can tow. And yes, I could tow your YJ too if we could find a big enough trailer.

Mingez, you gotta keep this thread going till March, so I don't forget! It sounds like fun!

RE: Re: wheeling withdrawal!!!

This is still on 100%! Looking at getting discounted rates at some of the local bed and breakfasts for you tender feet!

Gears coming next.

Still on, but now pushed back to April. Mid April to be exact. We have some people scared that it may be a bit too cold. And it was the Denver people!!! Whatever, it's more convenient that way anyway.

Moved!!! We are moving up to Northern New Mexico, closer to Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Also, we bumped the date till mid May. People were concerned with the distance and the cold. Now, it's not even 2 hrs north of ABQ, and only 4.5 hrs south of Denver.

We are going to the Pecos wilderness, and camping off of the Pecos river. Only 45 minutes past Santa Fe north.

PM me if interested.

If you can wait till late august mid september, I will be there.

did this deal already happen? I'm in grants/milan and only about an hour away from quemado and about 2 1/2 hrs away from santafe. What's up?
