What bolts do I need for a transfer case drop?


take one bolt out of your skidplate, go down to the hardware store and find one of the same diameter/thread with a length of one inch longer
 

What I have found with this, The problem with making your own transmission drop is the factory bolts have a tapered shank on them that is hard to find. most people go straight for the grade 8 bolts and just buy a standard hex head bolt, BAD!!!
If you go this route, there will be slop in the skid plate and it will shear all thoose nice new bolts into two (Don't ask how I know please, just trust me) The hole in the skid plate is about 1/8 larger than the shank on the properly threaded hex head, this allows for easier instalation. the tapering is what eliminates side to side motion.
The factory bolts are only grade 5 bolts, there is not a lot of lateral torque applied on them believe it or not when tighten properly. I found that my local Lowes has a bolt that works quite well. I found it in the "specialty bolt drawer" I simply brought the factory unit down matched the tread (I think it is a 1/2" 13 thread bolt, but don't quote me, this was a while ago) matched the taper, and got one 1" longer.

worked the balls! torque to 75 ft/lbs and call it a day!
 
Skyjacker makes a 1'' transfer case drop kit. It came with my lift kit and works great. I believe they sell them seperately. They shouldn't be too much, look pretty cool too. It's just little bars that go in between your skidplate and frame, your factory screws will go right into them. It's a real easy install.
 

i did the same thing as sinnty with the washers. i welded 6 heavy duty haly inch nuts to the frame and then threaded some grade 8 bolts in her. works and looks great. reason i went this route was that all my skid plate bolts spun free inside the frame. had to get rid of them.
