I have an 03 Sahara, lifted 3" with 33" tires.. I still have the stock ratio of 3.73 and quite frankly 4th/5th gears now suck.. I am ready to regear but I can't decide what ratio to go with. 4.10 or 4.56??? What would be the pros/cons of these ratios? Please help to inform me. [addsig]

well if you go for the 4.10 gears the swap would be fairly cheap as you could buy a set of axles for a 4 banger....4.56 gears would hvae to be bought ( expensive) and professionally installed ( expensive). i would say that 4.10 would be adiquite for 33 but if you ever decide to go with a bigger tire say 35 or 36 4.56 would be much better.[addsig]

I don't think I've ever seen 3.73 gears come stock in a 4.0L 5speed jeep, are you sure about this? Most 4.0L jeeps I've seen pull 33" tires really well with 3.73 gears, it's the stock 3.07 gears that are common in 4.0L 5spd jeeps that really suck with 33" tires.[addsig]

most 4.0L TJs and have stock 3.07 but you can upgrade free to 3.73. if you ask. most people don't ask or know about it. I love to bother dealers with these questions.

I've seen the autos come stock with the 3.73, but never a 5spd. Maybe it's an '03 thing, who knows. I've been wrong before, seriously  [addsig]

Yeah I'm sure I have Dana 44 w/ 3.73's... its on my buildsheet and I checked it myself. Actually its not too bad but South Dakota winds make it a pain... I think most 2003 Saharas w/5 speeds have 3.73's now.. Anyone think 4.56's would be too much for Interstate speeds of 75mph? [addsig]

Yeah, you can get 3.73s as a free upgrade with the new jeeps at least. When I buy my '03 X at the end of the summer I'm going to have the 3.73s in it with a 5-speed. I'd go with 4.11s, but thats me and I'm probably wrong.

If you're going to stick with 33's I would go with the 4.10-- remember, there's such a thing as too much gear also. 33's with 4.56 gears would make it tough to go 75 for an extended period of time. Would kill your mpg also.

Edited to add - 3.73 is added automatically when you add the Dana 44 or the canyon wheel package (to the sport)
