Ok i posted a thread about a leaky seal in my axle and thank ya'll for the information there, but I've run into a snag. New seal and everything in just went to cleaning before i put everything back together and i found pieces of a ring in the bottom of the 4wd shift motor housing. Looked around and on the inside(towards the pumpkin) there's this. I attached a pic. My book says nothing about it, it's not a seal, it's not a bearing, but whatever it is the outside rings crumbled away. What the heck is it?

Looks like what would have been a bearing for the intermediate shaft on the passenger side to ride on.

so pretty important huh? I was hoping to have it up and running by tomorrow and the parts stores are all closed

I'm not sure, don't quote me on that. That's just my best guess. It's in the pumpkin side of the axle tube inside the hole for the vacuum disco?

Yup, couldn't find anything in any book and it looks like nothing else i've ever pulled out of my jeep before so i brought it to the great minds at this site to figure out

That's the only thing I can think of it being. Are your axle shafts out? Can you tell if it slides through there? Is it big enough to be what I think it is?

Yeah the axle shafts slide through it and you can see on the shaft where it rides(kinda like you can tell where the seal sits on the outershaft).

Ok i got ahold of my quadratec magazine and yeah it's just a plastic bushing that it rides on. It's just the outer ring inside the shift motor housing that shows damage I think I'm just gonna put my shafts back in and order the piece. Either put it in when i get it or when something tears up.
