I have heard of people punching holes in the inner seal on an AMC 20 with 1 piece axles to allow gear oil to get to the bearings. My question is Can I leave the seal out. And here is why. I pressed on new bearings today and did not check the pressed on retainer ring, and yep it is thicker, so my axle will not go in with the inner seal in place. Goes in fine without the seal.
Your thoughts.
I can face off the spacer on the axle in a lathe but would prefer not to.
The jeep is not my daily driver.
