Wire conduits protecting the wiring harness on my transmission had pretty much deteriorated. I took some time and put new conduit on there and used electrical tape to tidy things up a bit. Hopefully it'll last another 20 years.

I managed to get the transmission dropped yesterday. The transmission jack made things a lot easier.
I used a socket on the crank bolt at the front of the engine to spin it over and remove the flywheel bolts
I was able to jack up the front of the Jeep in order to slide the transmission...
That's awesome. I'm really taking my time on this - I'll probably drop the trans later this week. I plan on pressure washing everything including the bottom of the Jeep before I put things back together.
I'm debating on if I should open up the transfer case or not. I don't have any reason to...
I was looking into this just now, and I see the same guys that made my skid plates make a low profile mount
https://undercoverfab.com/body-and-power-train-mounting/20-ucf-lopro-03-06-tj-lj-trans-mount-.html
They do say that this mount will cause more vibrations - I'm betting that it's due to the...
Got some more progress last night. The transfer case is out. It wasn't very hard at all, although it was heavier than I expected.
This video is a good one to walk through how to remove the transfer case
He did have alot more fluid pour out his transfer case than I did. I ended up...
I started taking things apart today. I did notice right off the bat that there appears to be a leak where my transfer case selector mounts
I also noticed the transmission mount is ready to be replaced
I bought a new transmission Jack, but I'm not exactly sure how to best position it. My...
I've watched that video, and it's really good. Surprisingly few videos on this topic.
I have the whine (which has gotten very loud), and the shutter. I haven't noticed any slippage yet - either I'm catching it early, or misdiagnosing.
I'm with you on this. I don't trust AI in general, however I do think it's good as "yet another opinion".
I've been using Valvoline ATF+4 for some time now. Since I bought that fluid extractor I've changed the trans fluid (well, half at a time) every other oil change.
My Jeep still runs...
I asked Chat GPT, and it told me that this is likely a bad torque converter.
Not sure if this is just AI telling me what it thinks I want to hear, or if this is legit, but it sounds good:
I did some research on the pressurized can. From what I've read, the reason they use a can is because the gasket goo is too thick for a person to squeeze out of a tube.
I think I'll probably go with the tube, 90 minutes is not too long of a wait if things have really gone sideways.
2005 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L with a 42RLE transmission.
Symptoms:
Loud whine when on the gas. Really easy to hear at 40mph and above, and if I let off the gas to coast the sound goes away. The sound stops for a moment as the jeep downshifts, and it almost sounds like it grinds / growls to a stop...
I'm always building out my trail bag with tools and emergency spares. This Feb we're planing on another wheeling trip seven hours from home, so I'm revisiting things.
I think some gasket maker would be a good addition to my trail bag, but I'm in between two choices:
