    What's your day job?

"Lead System Specialist" for Johnson Controls - in other words, I do larger-scale commercial installations of HVAC control systems. To put it simply, I'm a glorified air conditioning contractor...been doing this for just shy of 6 years now.

    3 or 4 inch lift?

Where in Maryland are you?? I'm in Cockeysville (Baltimore) and have a 4" lift (plus 1.25" body lift) on my '06 TJ. 32" tires though...will upgrade to at least 33" if not 35s once these wear out.

    Cold Air Intake

FWIW, on my TJ I decided to go with the Rock-It intake, which is admittedly not really a "cold air" intake. However, it has a great price point (the model for up to '02 TJ's can be had with filter for like $119) and in JP magazine's dyno test it performed quite well against "cold air" intakes...

    Jeepz + Dogz

I've read a couple threads on here talking about "Jeep Dogs" and I had a question - my wife and I recently adopted a dog from the humane society and I'm just wondering if those of you who wheel with dogs could let me know what your preferred method of restraining the dog is? She loves to ride...

    How much lift?

Yeah, they will fit right now but if you have stock wheels they will rub on your sway bar when you make tight turns. You'll also probably have problems with rubbing in the wheel wells if you're doing any serious wheeling and flex the suspension a bit. You can either add a 1-1.5" body lift or get...

    Time for a SYE kit...

I got the PORC SYE kit based off of Bounty Hunter's recommendation and have had no issues so far. Seems like a pretty solid kit. Got a custom drive shaft though, can't think of the brand name off the top of my head...I'll have to double check and get back to you. Also the X-Flex control arms...

    Assistance for a new Jeeper

Again, it comes down to how you plan on using the Jeep. If you plan on doing any major off-roading or driving through deeper unplowed snow a mud tire would probably work better. However if you're driving on packed snow/ice, an A/T will be worlds better than a mud tire. JK's don't need much lift...

    Tire Question

I could be wrong, but I don't think that's the case. You could get 30" tires as an option on non-rubicon TJ's. Rubicon's came with 31" tires stock (but of course had different wheels (16" vs. 15"). Also if your TJ had the "off road" option you got Rubicon springs which actually give 1/2" of lift...

    Jason4x4's 2006 TJ project

The last step is to install the tube on the throttle body and tighten the clamps. The little support arm on the tube attaches to the factory loom on the valve cover in an unused spot and just snaps in place. Lastly, install the filter on the open end of the tube and tighten the clamps...

    Jason4x4's 2006 TJ project

Before you discard the stock intake tube, note that the air flow sensor you disconnected earlier has to be swapped over to the new intake tube. You should be able to twist it and gently pull it out. It might take a little work but eventually it will come out. The next thing you need to do is pop...

    Jason4x4's 2006 TJ project

The next step is to finish removing the filter box from the engine compartment. Pull the stock filter out if you haven't already. Inside the box you'll see three bolts as shown in the picture. A couple socket extensions make this easier. Once the bolts are out you can remove and discard the...

    Jason4x4's 2006 TJ project

The first step is to unclip the top of the stock air filter box. There are 5-6 clips around the box. Once they are all off you can pop the top of the filter box off. Then loosen the hose clamp around the throttle body and you can lift the whole intake tube and top of the filter box off as one...

    Jason4x4's 2006 TJ project

Ok, here's the Rock-It intake install. As anyone who has ever popped the hood on a TJ knows, this is what the stock intake system looks like.

    Jason4x4's 2006 TJ project

Just wanted to give you guys a quick update: I got some parts last week but haven't had time to do anything with the Jeep until today because a) I was supposed to be on vacation all week and ended up having to work and b) my wife and I adopted a dog from the humane society when we got back in...

    Cheapest lift

Slip Yoke Eliminator - essentially, when you lift a vehicle, the axles will stay at the same height relative to the ground, but the rest of the vehicle is raised. This creates a problem because the angle of the drive shaft from the transfer case to the axle is increased beyond what it is...

    Check Engine Code or..

On my TJ I had a CEL once after a weekend of wheelin and I was able to pull the code (it was an O2 sensor fault) but after a few days it went off and hasn't come back (yet). That was about 15,000 miles ago, and my Jeep was just out of warranty. I had another CEL about 3 years ago while it was...

    Tires HELP!

Yeah, you do NOT want an A/T if you're going to spend much time in clay.

Hey, didn't see your message. I've wheeled at Green Ridge a few times (I was there this past weekend actually). I've been to Rausch Creek once and am planning on going back there on Jan. 2. I don't know of anywhere else to wheel around here (nowhere legal anyway).

    Cheapest lift

The cheapest way for you to get 4" of lift would be to get a 2" economy suspension lift like a Rubicon Express kit that is basically spring spacers and longer shocks. That would cost you about $200-250, then you could get a 2" or 3" body lift for another $140-150. That'll clear probably 35"...
