    Oil pump stud/adapter/housing

I am trying to find a part number for the stud you screw the oil filter on for a 1977 cj5 304. I am not really sure what the name of the part I need is. Anybody ever need this replaced and know what/where I should be looking?

    Shackle lift vs Suspension lift

Steering was definitely terrible! Could barely hold it between the ditches at 30+ mph. Forget about between the lines! That's how he earned the name "Luke the Drifter". I am much happier with the new springs and shocks. I'm only not happy with how high it sits now. If a smaller kit would...

    Shackle lift vs Suspension lift

My assumption was that I was pushing my frame up about 3" by lowering the front of the spring with the shackles. I didn't think about it anyway except that way. So I was surprised when the lift kit raised my overall bumper height by 6-7 inches. I guess my new question is if a 4" lift raised...

    Shackle lift vs Suspension lift

I had read on here somewhere that shackle lift would give you about 1" of lift for every 2" of shackle. I had 6" of shackle and was able to run 33" tires. With this in mind and following minimum lift for running 33"s, I thought a 4" lift wouldn't raise my lift much more than an inch. I was...

    1977 cj5

Getting rid of the shackles was definitely a good move. New springs, shocks, & tires really improved the ride. Not as much drifting from left to right or vice versa anymore. I believe I could have used a smaller lift than the 4" every catalog says I have to have to run 33" tires. I have more...

    1977 cj5

Started with a shackle lifted, primer grey, bikini top only, mixed tires, but with a freshly rebuilt 304, previous owner syndrome 1977 CJ5. Rattle canned it, radio & gauge wired, topped, got rid of shackle lift and added Rough Country 4" kit, new brakes all the way around, and added new tires...

    Bumper height stock/lifted

I have recently installed a Rough Country 4" lift. Does anyone know what bumper height would be stock? I'm at 26 1/2" on the front bumper. Fat boy has to have a step ladder to get into 'Luke'.

    Steering Column Compatibility

Yeah, I noticed after re-reading my message I still had shift down on the CJ% = CJ5. Manual with auto column. And just scouting out ebay , S10 and Blazer columns are incredibly cheaper than Jeep columns. (Why are Jeep parts so much higher?)

    Steering Column Compatibility

I thought CJ5s were all manual. That's why the CJ7s came along with the option of automatic. The CJ5s weren't long enough for the automatic was what I read somewhere....

    Steering Column Compatibility

I know the steering column in my 1977 CJ5 is out of a different vehicle. I know this because from my understanding, CJ%s were not made with an automatic transmission and I have an automatic shifter on the column. Now some of my cohorts have told me that it looks like a Chevy car column. Does...

    Sway bar

I have installed the front and rear leaf springs and shocks Rough Country 4" lift on my 1977 CJ5. I have left sway bar extentions. I have drums and power steering. The photo with the install instructions show discs. Am I supposed to have a sway bar? What benefit would it serve? Can I order...

Crown automotive replacement oil pressure gauge...

The lights in a 1977 CJ5 do not match up with the more modern replacement gauge. The socket is different and the new bulb is smaller. How do I get this thing to light up? Original has a orange wire with a socket and bulb. New has two male connectors. What do they connect to. Orange and...

    steering issues...& lift question...

Well I guess I should have started somewhere else in correcting the wandering. I changed tie rods and ends, lower steering shaft, steering bearing, wheel bearings, and brakes. Steering is much tighter but still wanders. Dang shackles still got me. Real lift kit next I suppose....instrad of...

    steering issues...& lift question...

I have 33x12.50s on my Jeep. If I return to stock shackles, I don't think I can run this wheel package. Therefore, I have been looking at lift kits. I read on this forum somewhere that a 2 1/2" lift I could run 33s. But when I went to order, JCW claims 4" for 33s. Who is right, from...

    steering issues...& lift question...

Oh yeah, the lower shaft does need a rebuild(I'll probably just replace the whole thing) but the steering box is tight to the frame...

    steering issues...& lift question...

I got these big long shackles on the front and back. Bushings are completely worn and shackles do not move when 250 lbs of man jump on the bumper. Im guessing these shackles could be at least part of my problem, huh? Good news is, my tie rods came in today. Bad news is, family Christmass...

    steering issues...& lift question...

(1977 CJ5) I have been reading all the previous posts regarding 'wandering'. My steering gear box is leaking fluid so i know it needs rebuilt or at least new seals. I have a very slight tie rod slip. Replacing which of these two should give me more results? I will do both but which one is...
