'07 wrangler unlimited on demand

The base (X) model still has the world-renowned D30/D35 combo :)

Haven't researched it, but I kinda figured that. Just disappointed that the 4banger has been eliminated!:(

......... I know the hard top is better, particularly in the winter.............

Well, THAT is definitely a matter of opinion..............I wouldn't have a hard top if you GAVE me one ('cept I'd probably make some good money off eBay!!!). I'm a soft-topper all the way - the most versatile vehicle ever made.......and I live(d) in the cold with no complaints!!! The heater's will blow you out, no matter the top.

OK, here's the scoop from the 07 Wrangler brochure:

Next Generation Dana 35 solid rear (included with auto trans): Package only (auto trans?) on X and Sahara
Next Generation Dana 44 heavy duty solid rear (included with manual transmission): Package on X and Sahara, standard on Rubicon, and all Unlimited
Next Generation Dana 30 solid front: Standard on all X and Sahara models
Next Generation Dana 40 heavy duty solid front: Standard on all Rubicon models

OK, you are the first one who's chimed in on the virtues of the soft top. I am leaning very heavily toward the soft top only due to the storage factor involved with the hard top. I was concerned about getting the rear windows damaged off-road, but realized they are removable, so if they are damaged (stick goes thruough the plasic, etc), they can be replaced without replacing the whole top, such as I had to do with my 1981 Scrambler!

Thanks,

Yeah, it's all kinda personal preference...........mine happens to be the soft top. I'm sure the hard top is lots quieter.......'bout the only advantage I can see. But I don't mind the wind noise (old biker) and I don't want any top that I can't handle myself. When they re-designed the TJ, one of the MAJOR improvements was the ease of handling the soft top.........I can, at any moment, by myself, put it in any number of configurations (including complete removal) to suit the circumstances..........on the fly, in a matter of minutes, if necessary!!!!! Can't ask for more than that! I haven't researched that point, either, but I'm assuming the top is AT LEAST as easy to handle as the TJ..........probably easier.

Have driven both (06s), one right after the other, and the hard top was quieter, but I, like you, am a former biker, so used to noise! And would probably have top off at least half of the year or more (living in Spokane WA is not topless weather year round)!
(currently we are having a snowstorm - expecting up to 8 inches by morning!)

I don't want any top that I can't handle myself.

Yes, with my friend being across town, it's ghoing to be quite impossible to remove/install hard top myself, that's my other reason for not wanting it!

Not sure if the 07 top is easier, but I do know how easy the TJ top was to remove/install!
