Well now that I basicly finished all the paint/body/wiring/broken seat issues I decided to put a new clutch in, finished that no big problems, just the usual input shaft froze in the pilot shaft bushing, take an hour to pry the two apart deal......
But on to the test drive, clutch was great, ran ok till I got back home, sputtered and died. Wasnt able to resart it, shot carb cleaner in the carb fired up fine, ok so problem is no fuel, pull off fuel line leading to fuel pump, dry. Blow a little compressed air back down the line into the tank, tank pressurizes with air, squirts fuel back out the hose, brown muck.
Jeep sat for 4 years before I picked it up, first thing I did was drain the old gas out of it when I got it. Fuel line must have condensated and rusted, so I drop the tank drain and clean it, blow carb cleaner back and forth threw the fuel line with compressed air about 20 times till all the rust came out and blew clear.
OK with that out of the way even when the carb (carter bbd) had a good fuel flow it ran terrible, even after a rebuild. So now I am looking to put an MC2100 on it but the problem is I cannot register my CJ with out passing emissions, its an 83 and will be exempt after this test period but in CT you need to pass the sniff test in order to register it, I want to put a MC2100 on it but do not know if it will pass emissions. Anyone get one threw and how?

DANG!!! Feel for you and mighty glad I don't live in CT!!! They just started emissions testing here in my county this year...........'95 and down are exempt. Sorry I can't help, but I feel your pain.

RE: CJ transfer case grinding (!)

Did you change the fuel filter and pump after all that? It's probably caught all that rust.

RE: Future Build Question.

hmmm... perhaps an elec. fuel pump w/new filter and tune up... and as for the smog check... anything '68 and up here has to pass... they cant seem to realize that the older they are the fewer there are... no step up in Vegas! g'luck!

Everything was 1 week old before this happened, but I grabbed a new fuel filter for it on the way home tonight, I already cleaned the tank and will be putting it back in tonight and hopefully I can disconnect the carb feed line, let it spin over till I get good gas again and try again......

Axle fluid leaking into rear brakes

think about 2 filters = 1 b/4 and a smaller one after the pump - cant keep it too clean... i'm getting ready to ditch my mech. pump and set up the elect. one... just to avoid what youre going thru...

The new pump or filter wernt the problem tough, It was that the jeep sat for 4 years without running and the gas line rusted, me taking it for its first ride seemed to dislodge all the rust in the line. Mech or electrical, crap in your gas is crap in your gas.....

RE: College and a pseudo-farewell?

that sucks dude. i have an 84' and it sat 2 years here in salt lake city and that almost happened to me. the only thing that actually happened to me was someone messed with my jeep while i was gone and they took the jet out of the fuel line. so that sucks good luck

Actually the 2100 should burn cleaner than the carter. I have read that plenty of people have passed emisions with the 2100. I'm about to put the 2150 the later version of the 2100 on my 85 when I get done you need any help give me a shout.
