2" suspension lift?

First, thanks for all the advice yesterday about tires, wheels, etc. Helped a lot!

I (will) have 31x10.5's on my TJ, and would like to get a 2" suspension lift. It appears that some kits will come with new shocks, and spacers to add to the springs. Other kits (more $) come with new shocks and new longer springs. Is there an advantage to spending more cash to get the new springs?

I don't need absolute top of the line stuff since I don't get many chances to take it off road, and when I do I can't afford to go too hard since if I break it I'll be riding a bicycle to work on monday, but I def don't want to buy some POS brand either.

It seems like RE kits have a good rep...any other recommendations? Anybody ever heard of Rusty's Off Road brand? Just came across them on the internet.

i also have a 02 TJ, wanting to put a 2 in lift for 32's. Ive done a lot of research. I think the general feeling is the Rustys Off Road 2 coil lift. Come with new, larger coils and shocks. No need for aything else.

if you dont take it off much then coil spacers will be just fine, RE has a great reputation and you wont lost any of your ride quality with the 2inch spacers

Question for those with hardtops...

You have to look at how much money you have to spend. Not much = spacers (save more by just buying spacers then buy 2" long shocks on your own), suspension kit = I got money to burn. :wink:

I personally would just go with a spacer lift. I ran the rubicon express budget boost which came with shocks. Then about a year later the bug hit me and I got a rubicon express 3.5 kit. Oh and I sold the budget boost to cut down the cost on the new lift. I just wouldn't blow money on a spring lift when chances are you'll want to go bigger later. Just my opinion.

The budget boost will not effect your ride quality in general. You just would get more flex out of a spring lift when off road.

I've seen some BB setups that flex pretty well.

Look for a used coil spacer lift, they come available often as people upgrade. Either way you go, you can add the other type of lift later as inchitis sets in.

and if you want a good amount of lift a BB is a good way to add to a 3inch susp lift if you have adjustable lower control arms

Just 2 things came to mind:

I would do the BB for now and have fun with it. You could also add a 1" body lift (that would stay in no matter what decision).

A 2" suspension lift is a waste of time and money (IMO) so I would go for at least 3" to 4". Like the old hot rod saying goes, "cry once". :wink:

o so true, do it right the first time, i went soa on 2 inch leaves for my first lift and i wouldnt be happy with anything else.

I agree with the above consensus that for a 2" lift, get a spacer lift with longer shocks.

As for ride quality, the shocks will be the only factor as you will be riding on the stock springs so the ride will be changed only by the different shocks.

I've heard mostly good things about Rusty's, but check the shipping charge before buying (see thread in XJ forum).

Really the BB kits are all the same except for the shocks. It's just a set of 4 two inch poly spacers and shocks.

i run a 2" spacer lift and love it. i am in the same boat that you are. i dont want to spend alot of money and it is my daily driver, so i dont want to get crazy and break it. go with the spacers.

I have the 2" spacer lift too. I put in new shocks when I did that. I love it. I am looking for a 2" BL next year. Go with what funds you got though! The spacer lift with shocks was affordable to me at the time. The install was easy too.
