Hey all! It has been awhile! Well, I have recently been looking into buying the 2006 Rubi. Only $525cdn/month! ;) That isn't even the crazy part. The insurance (It is mandatory here) is around $500cdn/month as well! Telll me that is not crazy.... What are your comments about this rig? I have test driven it, dig the 6 speed, but haven't taken it off-road.

Thanks

thats a s#*t load of money. you can build one for 1/3

And you guys so we have high health insurance. Looks like the Canadians make up for it on auto insurance.
Have you seen the 2007's? Worth the wait in my opinion.

The problem with the insurance is also that I am only 19, so.... When I hit 21 it will go down. But the insurance covers theft, fire, windshield... etc.. My 89 YJ is only $300CDN/ YEAR, one way, meaning accident. But hey! It's a Rubicon! DANA 44s! Lockers front and Read! Comes with the hard and soft top. 31" Tires! So.... yeah... it is worth it ;) :D Building for 1/3 the price... ummm... I don't know about that... things are pretty pricey here.... LOL. My YJ has had just about enough, and it is getting to the point of no return... Unless I sink some money into a new tubular frame, and fiberglass body parts...

Why would a 19 yr old want to buy a $30,000 Jeep? TO tear it up on a trail?

Buy an older Jeep, mod it, wheel it, break it, fix it, wheel it some more.

Hehe.... I wouldn't tear it up on a trail.... You see, first I would baby it, wash it ALL the time.............. THEN I WOULD KILL IT! BWAHAHAHA!

The fact is though, I am still debating. I might just do a total rebuild to my YJ (I love it that much ;) ), like the new frame, and fiberglass body. Besides, I guess I kinda got the local tire guys hopes up. I asked him the price of 35s and now he is always bugging me on when I am going to get them. Guess I can't let him down! ;)

theres alot of fans of the "built not bought" creed...

There is a problem with that though! The Jeep you buy is also built! ;) It is a never ending circle. Oh, btw, found another crack in the frame.... right at the tranfercase skidplate. Arghhh.

Although I also subscribe to the Build not bought theoy, the Rubi is nicely done for a stock Jeep... I can see the temptation (heck I often feel it myself). The '07 looks even better - styling aside. That will take some getting used to.

I don't really like the look of the 07. I do however like the 06. Not too mention, the 06 is like $34000CDN, so I can only imagine what the 07 will be... Although all that equipment would be nice.

You can have your Unlimiteds, Rubicons and whatever they call the 07 model...I want my stinkin GLADIATOR!
I normally would like to give the mfg's a model year run to work out the bugs on new vehicles, but that Gladiator is likely to send me right to the showroom. I'll take one with the Hemi option please.
BTW..What kind of 19 year old can swing $1000 CDN a month for car payment and insurance?

One with cash! Hey, if you can afford it I say go for it. Some say build it yourself is better but not everybody WANTS or knows how to build one up.

More power to ya. Enjoy.

What 19 year can afford one? One that works 13 hrs/day 6 days a week. :) And doesn't have many other bills to pay.

Ps- Like I said earlier though, I probably will just run my YJ till it can't run anymore. If I have to end up buying all new parts for it, I might as well buy a new one.

Sounds like you need a vacation...

My dad has a Rubi and for a the mild wheeling he does it's a much better value than having built one out of a stock TJ. I say go for it, especially if you don't want to build for anything extreme and just like doing good fun trails.
