33s on 2 inch

I am getting a teraflex budget boost which is 2 inches of lift. I was gonna get 31x10.5 tires then but I was wondering how 33s would run with a 2 inch lift

On a TJ? They'll fit okay, work well on the street as long as you keep the front swaybars connected. Offroad and with the swaybars disconnected the tires will get into the fenders pretty well. Many add a 1" body lift for a great bargain combo to clear 33".

Like it's meant to be that way from the factory. I know many that take that setup offroad and are very capable rigs.

If running 33"x12.5" tires you'll want to watch the clearance between the inside sidewall and the rear spring buckets on the frame. May want to run 1.25" wheel spacers if using stock rims.

Wouldn't that also require an extension for the steering?

wheel spacers will make your tires stick out more, often curing tire rub on the fenders or springs. I believe you are thinking of body lifts that may require extending things such as trans shifters, steering shafts, brake lines etc.. if you lift too much. A 1" lift would not require extensions.

He's got a TJ, apples to oranges.

i know he has a tj but since our jeeps have the same dimensions and same axles, i figured mine would be a good representation of how one looks on 33s with a 2.5" lift. a ride comparison would be totally different but i think looks wise, its close enough to use as a comparison. i don't think many tj guys have a 2" lift with 33s because its so easy to do a 4" lift

TJ's have larger wheel well openings, YJ's have the smallest wheelwells of all Wranglers. Tire fitment is very different between the two. I wouldn't recommend 33" on a YJ with a lift less than 4", unless installing TJ fender flares for better tire clearance.

I run 33-12.5 mt claws on my yj with a four in lift. No issues with clearance. But I also run tube fenders and have flat flares with the rear wheel wells chopped up a little. Also run the black mt 10in X 15in wheel. That's on my yj though. My best friend runs 33-12.5 on his 99 tj with the two in lift and one in body lift and loves it. Goes any where mine will that's for sure and doesn't rub to bad. Once and a while with sway bar disconnected and tire stuffed in front well he gets a little fender flare rub but I think that's due to the stupid bushwacker pocket flares he has on it.

How much would a good 4 inch kit run? Or should I just stick with a 2 inch with 31s or go with a 2 inch with 1 inch body with 33s?

I was looking at a 4 inch skyjacker sport lift for $550. Does anyone know about this kit or have it and could tell me if it is a good kit?

not sure what comes with it but at 4 inches you might need to do a SYE and a new rear drive line. You will need brake line extensions as well as a drop pitman arm to correct your steering geometry, New track bar brackets or new track bars themselves. 3 going to 4 is the real break point on TJ's.
Budget friendly is 2 in puck lift and 1 in body lift.

The mechanic that I go to said that a 4 inch lift is hard on the steering geometry but don't the kits come with all the parts that help fix this or is it still hard on steering?

Most kits dont come with a drop pitman arm. Unless your going to the top end kits that come complete. 4 to 5 k. It drops the idler arm back to factory geometry. But adds stress and torque to the gear box and frame. Most driving applications its no problem. But with this much lift and having this much flexibility can put it into a binding situation.
Not enough to worry about unless your really doing extreme trails.

Like I said earlier the 3-4 lift change point is where you go from 500 to 600$ lifft to 4 to 5k. Because most factory parts need to be replaced or relocation brackets added to the jeep to restore that drivability.
