350 Q/A

HI,
I was looking at my engine last night. (first 350 rebuild). I have a performer intake and it has only 2 water inlets on the underneath. My engine has 4 water outlets on the heads. 2 in front/ 2 in rear. What are you supposed to do about blocking that off? The gasket that I got has openings where that is. Does it seal itself of on its own after I torque it down?

Yes, I believe they do... It's been a while since I've been in a CSB, though...

Yeah Dude, It sure does. The gaskets seal it off against the intake and it can't go anywhere. It does warm up the intake from the contact of the water, the water just doesn't run through the intake.

Hope this helps,

Yeha, great answer. I was worried there! ANother question. THe middle port, EGR has exhaust that runs through it huh? MY gasket came with little metal restrictors to put on that port. What is all this EGR stuff? WHich ports needed silicon on the edges?

The EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It helps the engine to warm up and is supposed to be cleaner running. I doubt that you are doing a by the book smog legal set-up anyway.

That aluminum performer intake will conduct heat quick enough anyway, so you should install the restrictors on both side of the engine , drivers side and passengers side.

On the gaskets , I wouldn't use any sealer. If the heads and intake are straight and clean you can use a good Fel-Pro gasket and it will seal.
You might want to check and re-torque them after they have been run for an hour or so and the engine has cooled down.

If you don't have a radiator yet check with Tellico jeep parts. They had a new one for my CJ7 conversion to a chevy 350 v8 and it was less than $225 shipping and all. They sent it in about 3 days.

Let me know if this helps,

Hey, thaks for the help. I am months away from running the engine. Still need transmission, adapter, carb, and distributor, headers. I already have the conversion radiator. I am in my garage right now masking the engine off so I can paint it tonight. I'll try to get pics as soon as I can.

I believe it should be in the vicinity of the driver's side rear. I started to take mine apart tonight, just going to throw a new oil pump, timing gear set, and gasket everything.......then repaint.

The port that I always use is the one next to the distributor. It is behind the intake manifold, on the top surface of the block. When you put on the intake manifold, you put a flat rubber end rail seal there. It is tapped for 1/8" pipe fitting. If you are using a sending unit instead of a gauge you might have to use a 45 degree elbow to allow you to clear the distributor and not hit the firewall. I always prefer this port to all of the others. I have used the one above the oil filter boss and ended up melting lines with the exhaust , or having it get in the way of the clutch linkage.

I am glad to help on any information. Some of this took years to dig up and I like to pass it along so maybe it will shorten the build-up time for someone else. ( also it doesn't make me feel like all of those years reading and searching were wasted) HAHAHAHAHA

LAter,
