4 inch lift

I want to lift my 98 TJ 4 inches and run 33's. I won't be doing anything extreme just a little mudding and driving through town. How much stress is added on the frame and gear box? And will it hurt for what I'll be doing with it?

I don't think you have anything to worry about as far as stress to the frame or gear box. I assume by gearbox you are talking about the steering box, the 33 will put a bit more stress on the box but nothing to be over concerned with, all I have run is 33,s or larger and never burned up a steering box. I would recommend a steering box brace, not so much for the road driving but for the times you do go offroad, the brace will support the box to the frame better than just the bolts that hold it on. If you were referring to your transmission, it should be fine with 33" tires also. 33"tires and a 4" lift is pretty standard on most jeeps that see offroad use, and is with in the limits of most factory components. coil suspensions can be pricey, if you don't plan going offroad regularly you could do coil spacers and a small body lift (1"-2") and run 33" tires for a lot less cash.

The engine will be a dog after installing 33" tires, depending on your transmission type, engine, and axle gear ratio. The 4.0L auto with 3.73 gears can keep up pretty good, everything else stock is a dog.

I agree with most posters. If you aren't wheeling that much stick with a 2in suspension / 1in BL. It is way cheaper, once you hit 4in you have to look at SYE/CV Drive shaft, controls arms. It starts adding up really quick.

Okay thanks for the input guys I appreciate it. I think I'll end up going with a 2in and 31's
