4wd shudder

Im not sure if I have a problem or not so let me know if this is normal. 1993 YJ, no lift, stock size tires. Whenever I shift into 4wd and go over 35 the drive train begins to shudder and make all kinds of noise. This is 4Hi never gone that fst in 4Lo and ont intend to. The faster I go the worse it gets. I used it in the rain when i was sliding and I noticed but thought it was cause i got too much traction but I just tried it in the snow and it still does it. Just not as bad. I think I screwed something up because I accidentally drove around on dry pavement with it in 4wd. Could that be it, a little worried cause I just replaced the transmission.

RE: Re: Can

Just a guess you need to check your air pressure in all tires. If they are not the same your tires won't all be the same size and can cause what your describe.

Sounds more like U-joints than tires, but yeah, it could be either. Get it checked soon so ya don't shake something loose!!

start by checking the ujoint retainers on the front driveshaft.. then the joints... then check the alignment of the shaft

RE: and then I find this out....

I agree, could be front axle ujoints. The shuddering you describe sounds worse though. It could be inside the transfer case, maybe a bad chain or a problem with the front output shaft.

You can try running it in 4wd without the front driveshaft, if it still shudders you kinda ruled out the front axle and front driveshaft.
