I was thinking of upgrading to one of these posi locks so I have control and it doesn't slip of and then I'm screwed! Anyone done this upgrade yet? How hard is it to install on my own? Thanks  [addsig]

i researched the LockRight and i havent put one in yet but appears straightforward. it doesnt need any calibrating or special tools to do the job. takes maybe couple hours max.[addsig]

MRTATTOO:

Can you clarify what you are looking to install?

Your subject says "4x4 Posi-lok" which is a brand named cable that actuates the front axle in 4 wheel drive? If so, it replaces the vacuum parts with a hand push/pull cable for more positive control and less vacuum problems. (a lot of times installed when lines become old and brittle)

Or, as jeepster answered a "Lock Right" which is a differential locker that locks both wheels together for better traction? And if it is a locker would it be the front axle (Lock right) or the rear axle (Power trax) Both of these can be installed at home with reasonable automotive knowledge, the ability to read and follow instructions and basic hand tools, jacks and jack stands in one afternoon. For the money, they perform well, without problems, for most basic offroading.

Note: After installing, some breakage can arise from other weaker links in the system although I have had mine for years without any problems.

There are other lockers out there designed for more rugged use, but they come with a price. Installation needs specialized talent, tools, are substantially more expensive, and have drivability issues on the street.

Thanks. [addsig]
