700 R4 conversion

Someone is selling a conversion kit for the 700 R4 in the "For Sale" posts. I'm wondering if he was trying to put the 700 in a TJ and how hard that would be? I currently have a built 700 that's just taking up space in the garage. My TJ has a 5 speed. Would this be a good conversion? I'm thinking it would be nice to have an automatic again, but I've never 4x4'd with one. What are your thoughts?

buy an auto out of a tj, it's alot easier and about the same $$$.

RE: Winter time frustrations!

Yeah, you can buy a Jeep auto transmission if you plan on rebuilding it in a few years, sooner if you wheel it. A 700r4 is a great transmission if it is built right and will last a long time especially with a cooler. It has a low first gear also. Put that 700 to use.

RE: oil pressure

The 700R4 is a great ranny, but so is the factory Jeep 999/32RH used behind the I6. There are lots of parts for them and they have good stamina. The first gear isn't as good as the 700R4 and there is no overdrive, but it's alot cheaper to get in the Jeep and can be built to handle alot. Since you've got the 700R4 already, and a good five speed you can sell to cover install parts, it might be a really good low-buck swap for you if you want an automatic.

not to hijack but where have you found performance parts for the jeep 999 transmission? i have been looking for a shift kit for it anyone know where i can get one?

Well, I think I'll just stick with the 5spd. I'd like to do the conversion, but funds are non-existent right now. Plus, a friend of mine really needs a transmission for his truck and the 700 is a direct bolt in. Ce la vi!
