85 cj7 4.2l getting replaced with 79 cj7 4.2l, issues...

Aloha, maybe someone can help, got 85 cj7 4.2l 5 speed jeep, replacing motor with a 79 cj7 4.2l, has centerfold clutch, guys having major issues trying get motor n tranie to merge, dropping tranie now...why they not merging?

Check the pilot shaft bushing if it's the correct size and if the splines for the clutch disc match up. Aloha
 
When I did the NV3550 conversion on my 4.2L it took us a day of trying to mate the two. Such a pain, we got it, just took lots of tries and wrench throwing.
 
Sometimes when you put the pilot bushing in you can close the hole up a bit on the outside edge. It's made of a soft metal and it doesn't take much. May want to check it with the alingnment tool. If it is you can take the burr off with a little sandpaper. Like mentioned above it could have the wrong one in it, I know there's a difference in the size of a 3 and 4 speed pilot bushing from experiance.
