I have a '89 YJ and i just finished rebuilding the carb. After putting it back on, it sounds like its sucking air. It never did this before. i thought that it might be a vacumn line? The rebuild kit called for 2 gaskets at the base of the carb. does this sound right??? it seemed like they 2 gaskets did not seal the base up properly??? Any ideas???
thanks,
Josh

Re: RE: Re: RE: Question to moderators

hey guys, long time no see. A good way to diagnose a vaccum leak is to take a piece of vaccum hose that is about 18'' long and use it like a stethascope. Put one end in ur ear and move the other along the places where a vaccum leak would most likely occur ie (carb, egr, where the intake meets the head). Do this with the engine running but be careful not to loose a finger. If u find a vaccum leak youll know it when u find it.

RE: NW event

you can also use sprays (like carb cleaner or... <NOT RECOMMENDED!!!> starter fliud - i.e. ether) to spray around the suspect areas and if the idle alters you've found your leak - works great for vac. lines and intake leaks - just be careful and dont do it after running 400 miles on the interstate (try to keep the engine as cool as pos...)
good luck! vaccuum leaks aint much fun!

RE: Paragon Feb 19th

thanks for the suggestions. does anyone know about the base gaskets?

2 base gaskets doesnt really make sense... but i dont know everything... you can try just the one and see what happens....

RE: Ever see these pictures

I don't ever remember putting on 2 base gaskets. Seems like it could cause problems with sealing correctly.

I just put a MC2100 carb on and when I took the POS carter off it had only 1 gasket.
