91 fuel filter

Any one ever moved this to some place more convenient? The rear of the frame just seems pathetic. Any thing particular about the fuel filter, I would like to ditch it. The larger inlet and smaller outlet is a pain. It takes a special rubber hose that mates from the line from the tank to the inlet of the filter. This special hose is shot, and I'm guessing replacing it is going to be next to impossible. I'm thinking about using a off the shelf filter and place it under the hood. Any concerns? Thanks.

They don't require replacement often, and have a substantial little skidplate, I'd leave it where it is.

Of course there is no reason it has to be there, you could move it under the hood but it'd get hot.
