i have been looking for an adapter to put a v8 into my wrangler but cannot find one to mate to a tf999. i thought this was a medium duty trans? how come novak and advanced adapters don;t make anything to bolt to it?

anyone know of an adapter place that covers that trans?

Product# 716131-A

This adapter couples the Chevy V8 block to the Jeep Torqueflite transmission. The Jeep transmission must be originally coupled to a Jeep V8 or straight 6. This adapter kit uses a factory Chevy flexplate that bolts to the new aluminum torque converter ring that is part of the kit. The kit includes an Adapter plate, torque converter adapter ring, and hardware.

hmm, so its also known as a 32rh?

ok. well, that makes it easy. those parts aren't cheap to hook a different engine to your trans. even the adapter mounts are expensive

You're often better off pulling a GM engine with the transmission and transfer case attached, then you know the parts can handle the power and you save big $$ on adapters.

I have a GM 4.3L here that will go in one of my Jeeps with the attached 4L60e and 231c transfer case. The back half of the 231c will be from a 231j and use a SYE kit for a Jeep.

I used transmission and t-case out of S-10 blazer it had 4.3. bolted right up. Very inexpensive way to do it.

i am slowly working on finding an engine and stuff. only once a year do i have that much easy money and its almost that time. we get bonuses at work and that is the play money. i don't get tax returns normally so that time of year isn't my play time

700r4 and 4l60e are light years ahead of a tf 999 or tf727. if your gonna use the GM motor with the ecm and pin it out, I would have no reservations to use the 4l60e; if you simply looking to run a carb and no computer management, look for the 700r4, they are pretty much exactly the same but the 4l60e is electornically controled. a stand alone management system for one generally runs between $450-$1000 depending on the manufacturer. your np231 should bolt up to either trans.

the only other way to tell the difference is the older 97 after 4l60e was a stronger three piece case, the 1st gen's and 700r4 were one piece cases (look like an elongated TH350

so our trans case will bolt to a 700r4? i thought they had 2 and 4 wheel drive version so you had to know what to look for when getting one?

man, i can see lots of money moving away from me

Yep.
  • Go the route of a low end, junkyard, hack job you might get away for around $3,000.
  • More realistally though would be to plan for the $8,000 - $10,000 and up range.
  • Or drop your rig off at Burnsville OffRoad in Englewood, Colorado, pay them $26,000 and get a Turn Key 6.4 hemi VVT automatic spitting out 500 horsepower.
