AMC 20 spool or welded gears

Hey, has anyone found a spool for the AMC 20 or have you welded down the spider gears.

I checked with Randy's R&P a while back, they said they were working on a spool, but were not satisfied yet.

There was an aritcle in 4Wheel a few years ago, but I never found the follow-up on it. I had a friend who welded the gears on his stock dirt racer and they held, but welding is pretty damn permanant.

In any case, I'm more interested in the spool, I don't think I'll weld the gears.

Just pony up for a lock right. You can spend $100 or more on a spool or spend $200 on the lock right. I say either weld it or Lock right.

Yea, you're probably right, but I'm one seriously cheap SOB. Since I spent the $299 on the Superior one-piece axles a few years back, I should get some kind of locker and do it right. My brother has a lock-right in his M715; and it works well. I would still rather go with a spool: fewer parts, less complicated, and it's less permanant then welding.

if you get another set of spider gears... you can make your own spool... or just weld what you have... and get a set for spare... then that weld is no more permanent than the spool
