I am just trying to find out from people running 35" tires on their TJ, what modifications they have done and how well the Jeep performs. How much rubbing do you have? What have you done to eliminate rubbing? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

So you have no rubbing running 4" with 1" body lift? Very good to hear.

Very nice to hear

I don't have a TJ, but there's a girl in my Jeep Club who has a Rubicon with a 6" skyjacker lift, 35" Mickey Thompson Baja Claws on Mickey Thompson Beadlocks, and when she turns full, her tires rub the control arms. She needs to get some more negatively offset wheels to prevent this problem. For now, though, she just stops turning when it starts to rub. The only other solutions are: full-size axles that stick out wider (dana 60, 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton) or wheel spacers. Perhaps dropping to a 34x10.50 tire (Super Swamper makes one) but that's too skinny for most folks.

I Still have the stock 30/35 axles and 3.73 gears so I'm not to agressive yet. No binding or scraping. I dont know what the wheel offset is.

Did that chick get a wider rim? That is probably why it rubs. If you put 35's on the factory rims it would probably be ok. Plus the narrower the rim, the taller the tire will stand up.
The rubbing is actually good for the tire. It knocks the mud off and gives you more traction.

Well im really glad to hear all this. I really want to run 35's but didnt want to bite off more than I can chew. I am already planning on upgrading my teraflex 3" lift to the 4" then im thinking about just adding 1 or 2" body lift then put the 35's on. I would just hate to buy new 33's this spring then decide a little later that it would have been so easy to move up to 35's. It just seams that the only things that have been stopping me lately have been my 33's because most of my friends are running 35's are their vehicles and are walking right through most of the obsticals.

Redrooster,

I was going to do a full upgrade. TeraFlex will sell me the 4" springs and bump stops and buy back the 3" springs and bumpstops for a credit. But now looking at the big picture. I would probubly want to buy upper control arms and everything in the future if I ever wanted to do a slip-yoke eliminator kit and if I add the price of those in, I might as well just buy the Rubicon Super Flex 4.5" kit and be dont with it. The price of the 4" upgrade plus the front and rear upper control arms just isnt worth it. I can completely replace my 3" teraflex kit and sell it for a few buck and end up almost where I want to to fit my 35's.

I THINK!!

if you are going 4" or more... you'll want to change those arms.... if you offroad like it sounds like you do, you'll want the benefits of a long arm conversion... and... don't think that they are getting through stuff only because their tires are bigger... if you lock your axles, and make sure you have the flex... you'll surprise them

do you plan on upgrading your D35? I bumped mine up to a D44 when I was goin bigger. But maybe the TJ 35 is stronger than the YJ 35... just a thought.

Now THIS is Funny!

I would take a bigger suspension lift over using the body lift at all. Anything over 1" body lift just leaves you with unsightly gaps between the body, frame and bumpers.

re

I agree that a bigger lift would be better than a body lift but here is my problem. 4.5" is as big as Rubicon Express goes without jumping into a long arm kit (which I would love to do) But then there is the problem of funds. The long arm kits are just so expensive and I dont have the cashflow to do that. So I was thinking the body lift was the only way to go but I might hold off to see how the 35's work with just the 4.5" kit. Im assuming that it will work fine except in extreme flex situations and honestly how often does that happen. At least for me where I am its only a few times a trip. The only other thing that I dont want to happen is having the tirs rubbing on the control arms when turning.

As far as swapping my Dana 35 for a 44 thats already done. I bought the jeep with a Dana 44 rear. I was considering doing a front axle swap to get rid of the Dana 30 but I figured I would just do that once the 30 breaks.

I dont like the idea of a body lift either

i have that lift on my jeep.... and i run 33's fine! i have 9" from tire to `bottom of the fender

Another option for her is to adjust the steering stops. I adjusted mine after putting 12.50's on my factory wheels. No rubbing and I can still cut a pretty sharp turn.

We tested with my TJ to see what kind of kit we could put together and run 35's as cheap as possible and still have incredable flex. I am running a 3" BDS with 1" coil spacers Trailmaster adjustable lower arms and a Daystar 1" Body lift. I have ramped against the Tera flex long arm kit and beat it by 50 points. Don't believe the hype sometimes they try to justify you spending more money. The kid that spent the money for the 4" Teraflex with long arm kit was very upset by the results. I have since tested against many other long arm kits and the closest that any of them got was the skyjacker double flex but this set up still won. If you rub when you stuff the tire increase your bumpstop. With a 35" tire on a 15x10 run you should not rub on the trailing arm. 35's will rub on a 15x8 if you don't adjust your turn stops.
