Is there already a channel that we use all over the place for Jeeps to talk to each other? If there is, please let me know as it seems to be different depending on where you go. WHy don't we all use channel 13. We could do a little chatting along with our waves out there! Let me know what you think

Sounds like a great idea - a JEEP channel! Now, if I could only get a CB.............

When you buy a cb, a lot of them come with a book with channel listings. Most of the guys around here use channel 4 which is the designated off-road channel.

Channel 4 makes sense! Get it? 4x4? Ha!!!

It's too early in the morning for me....sorry, I'll go get more coffee.........

OK, I posted this in 6 forums. Channel 4 is the overwhelming winner as far as channels go. Just an FYI I have seen 4,5,6,7,14,16 and 21 mentioned. We should all use 4 day to day driving! I am just trying to get us all on the same page so we can always talk!

my grampa is part of search and rescue and he uses 9 all the time.. even when he's not searching and rescuing

I get pretty much zip on my CB anyway. Haven't had a chance to use it on a trail but I pull nothing but scrambled talk the rest of the time and they cant' hear me if I try to break in. That's any channell.

9 is emergency channel right?

yeah.

I only use mine when i'm on the trail..i get a too much noise out of it during driving and its hard to hear with the soft down.

Probably because a lot of the talk you're hearing is coming from truckers. Most truckers that I know have their CB's boosted so you're probably hearing them from a far distance away. You can hear them but your cb doesn't have enough power to reach them. Could also have to do with where you're located. If you're near a mountain with a highway going up it, people using cb's up the mountain will be able to broadcast to you much easier than you can to them.

Nextel works pretty good too. If I hit a "skip" just right it will reach all the way to Cali.

What exactly is a "skip"?

a "Skip" is when the signal bounces between the ground and clouds repeatedly, causing your signal which will normally only travel a few miles to travel possibly hundreds of miles. Atmospheric conditions have to be just right and you have to be in the right spot to hit it. Ever listen to a radio station hundreds of miles away on a cloudy day that you can't hear on a clear one? this is "skip"....

I used to talk regularly with folks on the East Coast from Kansas with nothing but a 4 watt Radio Shack CB. Never could hit the West Coast, though. Must've been the Rockies blocking me out. Never could get a long conversation, but it was interesting to chat a few minutes with someone out there.......

ever notice that most groups prefer the lower channels? I didn't think the 23 channel CBs were still around...
