Bad Radio Static

Hi all, just bought my first Jeep a few weeks ago, a 2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo. I love it!! Anyway, I have never had this issue with any car I have ever owned until this one so I am not sure what I should do.

I have the Infinity Gold sound system and the factory radio, and there is CONSTANT static in the radio, even on local stations that I KNOW should come in crystal clear.

Any suggestions on what could be causing this? And does anyone know what I can do to fix it? It is driving me up a WALL!

Thanks!

Welcome to Jeepz. Start with the basic checks. Antenna connection maybe loose or broken. There are 2 points of connection between the radio and the antenna mast. On the illustration, access #8 which is located under the right hand side kick panel, they sometimes come loose from this connection. The other connection is behind the radio, make sure its completely seated properly on the radio.

So.., did that fix it? Well, did it?
Some also send a wire from the positive batt. post to radio, (with a fuse somewhere), and from the radio a ground wire back to the negative batt. post in order to completely eliminate all electrical interference that either the built in, or external supplemental 'noise filter' is supposed to manage, lol.
