badge or no badge

the lift and 35" tires are the only badges i need. My thoughts on a real jeep the top and doors must be REMOVEABLE to be a real jeep! Not knocking any others out there, the red Liberty looks bad ass and could probably out wheel my TJ but solid roof and doors not a real jeep

lol smart man!!! Badges we don't need no stinkin Badges

The liberty is a good jeep but the engine is what drags it down. Jeeps should have engines that don't need to be replaced at 120k miles. I know the guys who own jeeps with V6s think they are great but there should not be pages anf pages on tons of forums about how many people had to replace their motors at such a low mileage. It should be the opposite, like how the I6 and I4 motors are know to run forever and be dependable motors.

After replacing the motor in our liberty, we just didn't trust it on long trips anymore. The wrangler, we just pulled into the driveway after driving for 3 hours and wouldn't worry if had 3 more to go.

i think the only problem with a liberty is that we are not used to seeing them lifted and what not so maybe that will change here in the near future

This is probably part of the real reason. No one is used to seeing them modded and out on the trails.

Wasn't there a time when "real jeeps were 4 cylinders" then "real jeeps were solid axles with leaf springs" and now its "real jeeps have a removable top and doors". Jeeps used to not have doors, if you really want to get into it.

Is just evolution and some people who think what they have is the top of the pile but, in reality, once it came out of the factory its already obselete because they are always trying to design something better. The real jeeps were made by willys and ford back way before all of our time and 90 percent of our "real jeeps" are actually real dodges. I even own a "real amc jeep", more jeep then all the vehicles after 1987 but some people still look down there noses because they think it has to be a dodge wrangler to be a real jeep.

Oh well, someday people will figure it out. You can remove the doors and top on a suzuki samurai so it must be a real jeep also.

Just some boring Sunday afternoon observations for people to add some thoughts to.

From the original Willys MB to the 2011 Grand Cherokee, the Jeep® brand has been the leader in 4x4 innovation and off-road capability for over 69 years. The proof is in our exclusive Trail Rated standard.

We test Jeep® 4x4s on the toughest trails in the world to prove one thing: They can take whatever you dish out. The Trail Rated® badge means that your Jeep 4x4 has been designed to perform in five categories of off-road conditions: traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation, and water fording.

Traction in 4x4 is equivalent to grip on Asphalt. Trail Rated® traction helps you stay in control on untamed terrain, slippery (wet, mud, snow) conditions, and on steep grades.

Don't drag your belly through the mud—just clear nasty logs, rocks, and uneven ground without sustaining undercarriage damage. Jeep® Trail Rated® 4x4s feature optimized approach, departure, and breakover angles to keep you in the clear.

Athletic. Agile. Trail Rated®. Jeep® 4x4s have the footwork to navigate narrow gaps, dodge emergency situations and avoid cosmetic damage to underbody sills thanks to precision steering and optimized wheelbases. Even gazelles don't move like this.

A Trail Rated® suspension is limber like a gymnast. How exactly? Flexibility is the key to good articulation. The more a wheel can travel, or flex, the better it can maintain contact with terra firma and provide the traction needed to cross an array of obstacles.

Hit that riverbed with confidence. Trail Rated® Jeep® 4x4s feature additional electrical and body sealing, along with a high air intake location for optimum water fording capability. Note: Do not attempt water fording unless depth is known to be less than 19 inches.

i just love the whole thing about when i get to drive mine, im always asking the "top or no top" question. i love being able to take the top off.

I keep thinking that will be my question, but to be honest, I VERY RARELY take my hardtop off... It's just too hot and rainy year round in both Panama and Costa Rica to risk getting caught without your top, and I sold the soft top because I never really used it anyway (both because of comfort - it's just too noisy on road - and safety - theft is a big issue around here, and why keep getting it ripped if there is really nothing to steal inside the Jeep?).

Keep in mind that both the CJ's, YJ's and TJ's have been sold overseas with metal tops (not removable). Are they not Jeeps?

our wrangler could use that one. it never leaves the road.

i want one just because we were the original "trail rated" before there was such a thing as trail rated

Jeeps were trail rated even before the drivers were... I have seen some REALLY FUNKY videos of wartime Willy's being jumped and put through all kinds of obstacles, and you can see the pain in the passangers' face when the Jeep hits the ground!

and when you do get one, they come with specific directions as to where they are to be mounted

THIS IS CRITICAL. If not mounted in the exact location spelled out you run the risk of having your badge knocked off by someone's car door while parked at the mall.

I'd never take my Jeep to the mall...That's what the wife's car is for.

I'd drive mine to the mall in a heart beat. I may get there late because "as the crow flys" might get a little nasty.

we only have jeeps so one has to go to the mall

I used to LOVE going to the mall in my Jeep when I lived in Miami. Nothing wrong with that; there was a Bass Pro Shop in the nearest mall, though...

Nope, no way, no how do I go to the mall anymore. Last time there I got high-centered on a parking curb and had to be strapped by a Prius.
