RE: Going newer... Got Questions.

Ritt and Jules,
Saw your YJ's in the Gen Chat picture thread
Are both of your Jeeps sporting Bestop YJ flares?

I like the way they look and was considering them. How do you guys like 'em? Are they cut-out type or do the just fit in place of the stock flares???
anybody else?

TIA

mine faded to nothing in 3 months. Jeep is a part time driver and garaged. Called bestop they said they were aware of it and told be to put some "goop" on it (don't remember the name), it did make them look "factory" again until they got wet (how often does that happen). I no longer own them and won't buy anything made by bestop to this day. I have a little anamosity so I might be the wrong guy to ask! :D

Twisted,

Just found your thread.

I bought mine used last year or so. They bolted on using the original holes. Very simple intallation. The rears look as though I can cut some material out. I still have my track bars and sway bars, so I haven't yet tucked the tires to see how they hold up. They seem very rigid. They are made of pretty thick polyurethane (sp?).
I had to repaint mine when I got them (used remember?). I used flexible bumper paint and they look great.
I have noticed less water splash when driving down the road. The "bulge" helps reduce this.

I like them.

I have read that you can use a propane torch at around a 3-4" distance to remove the oils from flares (chaulky white appearance). Many times they aren't really faded as much as they are coated with waxes and oils (from a auto car wash for instance).

RE: New Member...

Sorry, TC, just saw your question. I do like them and had them since they first came out by Bestop. However, they do turn that light gray after about 6 months AND they pulled away from the mounting about an 1/8 of an inch for some reason.

I preped and painted them with a "flexible Bumper paint" I bought at a local auto store. It was easy, just slipped news paper in the space between the fender and flare. It's lasted about 2-1/2 years w/o change.

let me know,

I've heard of this with a "paint remover gun" but you will have to be careful and I don't know how long it will last. I think paint is still easy and fast with proper prep.
