Bore it Over??

I've been reading a lot of specs lately of jeeps that I admire. On quite a few it says something like .30 bored over or .40 bored over.....what does all that mean and what are it's advantages?? disadvantages??[addsig]

Overboring refers to the cylinders. .030 (30 Thousanths of an inch) is a common overbore as is .040, .060. It's usually done when a rebuild is performed and the cylinders are found to be out of round, scored, nicked, etc. It also gives you a little more power due to increased engine displacement.[addsig]
