Change to synthetic oil?

Bob gets the old oil out of our compressors . Bobs wife won't let Bob buy new oil. I tell Bob "it's used oil" Bob says " it's a used motor" Millions of truck drivers use Rotella T, because it clots up and seals leaks. They don't want to expose leaks. Millions of truckers wont lie!!!! That is proof. The internet isn't for research, it is for free porn and JEEP boards . USE IT PROPERLY. :D If you want something to expose problems, fill you crankcase with propane and light it. This will show you the weakest gaskets. :D    LMAO!! And remove the sludge, too!!! Really!
Sound to me like you might have a point about synthetics. Bob needs a synthetic wife.( A blow-up doll).

Ah this is good. HAHAHAHAHAHA

Why be upset about a leak? It was a problem that was already there it was just hidden. It would have eventually shown up anyway. It was already broke so fix it.

I say why be upset about a flat tire? It was already a hole filled with rubber waiting to be punched out. So change it!! OR use fix-a-flat it is synthetic. Nails are good. So is broken glass, barbed wire , etc. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I have researched this and I have been watching people have flats in the field of driving for 25 years. Ignorance of sharp objects is no excuse.
I am an ASE certified flat watcher I know!!!!!!

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him a Duck!!!!

Having fun.

TASTES GREAT! LESS FILLING!

maybe you would stop spewing the untruths that you do.

Don't sugar coat it man, tell us how you really feel! You didn't get very many hugs when you were a kid, did you?

Oh - and what, exactly, was the untruth there Professor Madness?[/i]

Hey TWISTED COPPER I like your style!!! Did you notice my jeep pic is leaking anti-freeze? I changed to synthetic oil HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

<-------------------- That .22 bullet had nothing to do with it. The hole was there since it was new. The bullet was GUESS WHAT ?????

YES!!!!!!!! SYNTHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now there ya go. Like that antifreeze leak. Hoping the sludge will keep leaks from happening is like putting stop leak in a radiator. Sure it stops it but its not fixed now is it? And you talk about Rotella T. Now theres some trash, but not as bad as that water they call delo 400. yeah I have been in the truck repair business as well. Point is though there is a right way and a half asses way to fix someting. If I have something leaking I don't get pissed, I fix it. Thats the way it goes, I don't count on garbage in an engine to keep it it. Like I said thats what the gasket is for

So, if I switch to fully synthetic oil and expose the rest of my - well lets just call them "pre-synthetic leaks", I guess I'll have to try those newer SYNTHETIC gaskets, I hear they work pretty well. The only drawbacks to them are that they cost 5 times as much and if you switch back to regular oil it stops any small leaks in them that may have occurred over time .hehehehehe

ya just dont get it. Do I need to spell it out for ya? What is a gaskets job? To keep fluid from leaking between 2 parts. If a fluid is leaking between those 2 parts, what does that mean? The gasket has failed and needs to be replaced. You cant teach morons intelligence. You must be a product of government schools

Axually, I's is edumacated pretty good, buts I's relies on common sensesess when it comeses to my's Jeep!!! I guessesess yous is ones o' them edumacated idiots.

Go ahead, you have the last word. I'm done with this stupid debate. I'm pretty sure everybody else is sick of it and not reading it anyhow.

This has been a fun post to follow. Just don't get all personal about this stuff. Disagree all you want to but keep it clean. Tug

CJ? YJ? Springs

Who knew bringing up synthetic oil was like bringing up the death penalty. I'll be switching to synthetic on my next oil change. And if I have any leaks they will be fixed promptly. If using better oil and fixing hidden problems is wrong then I don't want to be right. Just out of curiosity, how does oil cause an antifreeze leak?

Just an oppinion, I´ve been using synthetic oils, in my motors since 81, and run them hard from time to time. Multi hundred mile runs at 100 MPH. All of my motors, have kept good compression, near new, with 100,000 some miles. When I did have to break into a motor, it was pretty darn clean in there. Only major problems, I´ve had, were detonation related (driving to fast/running lean), nothing to do with lubrication. Have had some, leaks in older motors. From the beginning, it has been advised not to change from synthetic to normal oil. The synthetic swells the seals (polyurethane/rubber) some, go back to normal oil and they shrink some.
If you have a leak, it will only get worse, with synthetic. Normal oils would sometimes gunk up and slow down a leak. Won´t happen with a synthetic. Synthetics keep a more constant viscosity and shear less, turn to varnish and carbon, at much higher temperatures, keep polutants (blow by and such) in suspension, so more goes out with the oil change.
Just opened up a motor, with 130,00 miles, cylinder ridge, was almost non-existant (very little wear).

If you notice the anti-freeze leak . It is my CARTOON JEEP!!!!!!!!

<----------------------------

I wouldn't put synthetic oil in my old Jeep.
If I understand this correctly, A woman has synthetic breast implants, they leak and she dies, the doctor should have changed her gaskets???????

Then according to madness, all synthetic oil is good for is to put in long enough to spot troublesome leaks that you cannot find otherwise, then change it back to good oil??????? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA    :p

I lied. I'm not done...

If that's the case, it seems pretty damned obvious that the 2 oils have different effects on gaskets, which only proves that switching either way can cause problems, i.e. LEAKS! It is mighty convienient the manufacturers say it's OK to switch one way (the way that is profitable to them), but not the other (the way that will cost you)!

New Jeep - Synthetic good
Old Jeep - Synthetic bad

Clacasse - Let us know how you make out after about 10-15K mi., I wish you the best of luck with synthetic, but I think you are asking for problems.

Once again you prove that you only read what you want to read. Nowhere did I say that synthetics were only good for finding leaks. If you had actually read everything in my posts you would have saw where I made statements about synthetics reducing friction in an engine therefore reducing the wear in the engine and extending its life. So before you make blanket statements about my posts maybe you should read them first.

This thread is cool! Anyways, There should be not doubt that synthetic oil will help protect your engine much better than regular oil. We are simply talking about advances in technology that helped produce a better lubricant. For low mileage engines, there should not be much of a problem with the change, but keep in mind that you will HAVE to keep using synthetic oil for the life of your engine, or else you will have MAJOR problems. For those of us with higher mileage engine, there will almost ceartainly be problems switching to synthetic oils. Because of the nature of synthetic oil, it will cause the gaskets to fail prematurely. Why you ask, because it makest he gasket swell as stated in a previous post. You can fight all you want and say that it is only uncovering a problem that already existed, but if there was not leak, well I really do not the problem already existing, but rather the switch from regular oil to synthetic oil causing the problem. What it really boils down to is ,
1. Are you willing to go through the trouble of changing the gaskets that may be needed when switching to syntheitc oil;
2. Are you willing to keep investing into synthetic oil for the life of your engine.
3. , doyou thing that the pros make the cons worth it. There is no doubt in my in that I will get better gas mileage, less wear on my engine, cooler engine temp, more HP, and many other benefits, but when it comes down to dollars and cents, am I going to get what I paid for. Well, I do not know the answer. I am personally going to stick with a good natural oil and keep my Jeep well tuned. I am not willing to put up with all the "side effects" caused by the use of synthetic oil. This is just my well informed opinion. I have been researching synthetic oils for a couple of years now, both at mechanic shops and through the internet, and the stats I have seen do not offer improvement significant enough to go through the trouble. -Al
