Check Engine light

I was driving around yesterday when my "Check Engine" light on my 97 TJ came on. This happened last week too. After tightening the gas cap, the light turned off after several miles. Now it's back on. Usually, it's because a gas cap isn't on tight enough, but I know this isn't the case this time. I've heard that a light can come on because of condensation on the coils. Does this apply to Jeeps? Any thoughts on what it could be? I'd hate to spend the money to have someone look at it and say it's nothing? Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed! Thanks.[addsig]

My friend has a TJ, not sure of the year, maybe 2000, and she has had several recalls from the factory. One of which had to do with the Gas Cap. You might just want to call the Dealer to check that out. There is also a recall for a fire shield on the exhaust manifold. Check it out.

Thanks guys. That's exactly what I did. Reset the codes by disconnecting the battery. I have to do the same thing for my Blazer and it works like a champ. Thanks again.[addsig]

I don't remember where I got this info from but, on the TJ's turning the ignition on and off a number of times will display the code on the odometer. (did I spell that right?) You might try checking the manual.[addsig]

I just happen to get a check engine light last night on the way home. I did check my gas cap when I got home. It was loose. I have just purchased a new cap (lost the locking one at the gas station) and I am not sure I was given the correct one. Any way! I did not get a check engine light when there was not a cap on the jeep. This morning I did do the 3X ignition switch thing and low and behold,,,,,, a code of P045 came up on the display. The next display was the word "done". This thing really works..... What will they think of next?
