Does the VIN on the windshield match the firewall? I bet a previous owner swapped the winshield and /or re-vinned the jeep for another reason, example title issue's or avoid smog test.
that is clearly a CJ 7, also I think I see 6 bolt hubs on the front which would lead me to believe it's a wide trac which means it is most likely a post 1980 jeep CJ7. what does the dash board look like?
My '79 CJ-5 has the sticker that's upside down. It also has a vin on the windshield frame and the firewall next to the master cyl but they don't match.Lol When I got mine the guy handed me the title folded with a matching vin plate in it. He said he had removed it and was also gonna pull the engine/trans and crush the rest. Maybe it was gonna go to a Jeep that had no paperwork, maybe it was gonna go on a coffiee mug. It didn't matter to me. Your jeep may have had paperwork issues at one time. I wouldn't worry about it, them mudholes could care less whether it's a CJ5, 6, 7,8, or what have you. As long as you have enough paperwork to get it tagged your in good shape. CJ's are at the age where if they're stolen nobodys gonna look for them anyway.Johnny-
I counted 5 lugs on the wheels but at any rate all of the CJs I’ve owned didn’t have a window VIN like a Wrangler but rather had a sticker somewhere inside the tub, mostly on the dash. I had a 1980 CJ5 where the sticker was on the inside of the tub just below the driver’s side door. The sticker was placed upside down so if you stood at the door and leaned in with your head down you could read it. Weird but that’s the way it was.
