I have a 83 CJ7 that I am installing a built SBC 350...i want to run inframe headers with duals out the back two sides...anyone have a sugestion for mufflers that are not loud? truck is for beach cruising and highway travel...very little trailing

I've got an 83 with a 350 and I'm running Hooker block hugger style on mine. I've got a 3" lift on my drivetrain but I believe they'll work fine on a "stock" set up.

Sorry I can't recommend a muffler - I'm running Moroso's but they're just a bit much on the road. Something with a deep, mellow tone and not so much bark would probably sound pretty good.

Remember that you have limited space under there for too much of a muffler so take some measurements and see what's available.

Thanks for the reply.....I have a 4" skyjacker suspension lift on it also. Are the Hooker headers stainless and can you tell me how much they were?

Mine are not stainless and I don't recall what I paid for them. Several companies make the style I am referring to in standard, stainless, and ceramic lined. Check Jegs or Summit Racing for pricing. I bought mine from Summit about 4 years ago and they've been pretty good.

Suspension lifts don't play too much into exhaust. I raised my engine, transmission, and transfer case 3" on the frame to allow for a flat bottom skid. I think the block hugger style headers will work inside the frame for a motor

I am running Dynomax mufflers purchased from Advance Auto. I believe they are $35 or so each. They are mellow at idle and quiet on the road. I am not running headers though, so they may be a bit louder with headers. I swapped my CJ frame to a wider YJ frame and was able to run the stock 5.3 manifolds when I put the engine in.
