Clicking noise from front disc brakes

Clicking noise is driving me crazy so today removed both calipers, pads, cleaned, wire brushed reassembled calipers then went for a test drive. Still clicking. After checking out several posts I understand I'm missing spring clips? Where to install as I have no reference either side. Thanks for any input :???:

What year and model jeep?

Are the brake calipers factory? Meaning not aftermarket oversized?

Thanks for for the response JPNinPA, calipers appear to be factory and recall po telling me he just replaced brake pads when I purchased the 1979 cj7 last year. The clicking noise began about three months ago but was very slight and would cease when slight pressure was applied to the brakes.

Thanks for the diagram especially the small inset which shows the location and orientation of the pad spring. Problem is front disc pads the rear brakes are drum brakes. Ordered springs from Morris 4x4 and will install in a few days. Just noticed in the diagram that I may also need anti rattle clips of which I have none. So must investigate for a source.

Try rockauto.com or quadratec for parts.

I realize the backs are drums I didn't post any rear info. If you had noise coming from the rear, you could try to use Beano. :). Or ask and more pics and directions would follow.

Good luck and don't forget to grease the slider pins.

Thanks again JPNinPA, installed spring clips and all is well. Next issue is replacing upper and lower steering shaft bearings

Your welcome.

Steering shaft bearings??
In the steering box?

Tie rod ends? Or the u-joint in the steering shaft?

Re thread: Replacing the lower steering shaft bearing and steering gear coupling on a chair by Police Monkey161. Perhaps the better phrase would be the bearing located on the bottom of the steering column.

Yes the bearing and bushing it sits in at the bottom of the column, and the bell coupling at the bottom of the shaft are replaceable, and pretty easy to do..

Thanks for your comments 69jeepcj. I see Morris 4x4 has the kits needed for the task. May start on that next week. Just finished replacing a 30 day old ignition control module, issue "no spark". May need to upgrade distributed in near future.

Yes those control modules are a pain, they just go out with no warning at all. swaping to another is like the HEI, or any other for that matter will be better. Avoid the prestolite, if I remember correctly that was a early problematic ignition system that somehow stuck around. Have heard many problem with it. :NOTE from above: The bell coupling is not replacable but comes as a rebuild kit, don't let it intimidate you by its looks, once inside the coupling it is quite simple.

check your local autozone, they typically have a rack full of this miscellaneous hardware, which also comes with new pads

Did you get this squared away?
I had a clicking sound that I only noticed at low speeds, or when driving next to a wall. Turns out there was a rock in my tread, and would click on the pavement as the tire rotated.

Yes, seems I needed spring clips on the front disc inner pads. Thanks for asking and am currently working on replacing rear drums and shoes.
