Cold Weather

What I love about winter
The ‘cone of silence’ that falls over the land, when it starts to snow.
A silence so deep that it removes the noise of other skiers on the same slope.
The way the mid-night sky lights up as a gentle snowstorm moves in.
The funny crunching sound when you walk over fresh snow.
Doing brodies in the parking lots after the snowstorm because you could be the first.
Being the first one to do a winter trail…knowing that all who will follow will only see your tracks and wonder.
The gentle kiss of 25 year old Brandy her lips, as you sit in front of a roaring fire.
The over whelming beauty of an ice water fall, from the deepest blue to the crystal clears.
The deep, low ring of ice, as your ice axe strikes the first hit. Listening to the same deep tone as it travels through the ice wall, and hearing the tiny icicles sing back.

And it just feels like Christmas with a foot of snow on the ground.

OH!!!!

How could I forget??!?!?!!?!

50 miles through the woods and trails on the skidoo to stop at a woodside restaurant to fuel up the belly, then cross the street to fuel up the sled.. few more hours of riding, get lunch, fuel up.... few more hours, dinner, gas.... go
unwind in the comfort of home

4wd/ Awd/ and ABS doesn't mean you can drive the same speeds and expect to stop just as quickly as on dry roads.

You're right... There are times I don't feel like driving over the hill to go pick up my brother. Everyone tells me "oh you have 4wd, you'll be fine". Yeah so maybe 4wd will help you move, but moving isn't the problem... stopping is...

Thats why I love a stick. Keep in in 4wd and in gear. Apply the breaks but never touch the clutch. Amazing breaking over an automatic. But you still gotta keep your head. Nothing works on a sheet of ice!!!

Maybe its because this is going to be my first winter with the jeep piece, im anxious to go out but a little nervous on what to expect. i live in a ski/snowboard town. in which i do niether so i always end up listening to stories in the cabin, hopefully i can make some better stories with my fellow jeepers.

With a manual, gassing it up to downshift to the next lower gear then easing off the gas in order to use "engine braking" to slow you down is very effective for stopping in snow, and it will give you the best chance of being able to steer on ice.

It can be done with an automatic too, but not at highway speeds. There's too much of a gap between the two top gears at 50 mph and you can't rev the motor to synchronize the gears anyhow. Works great at 35 mph or less though.

yeah, but a majority of people out there don't know how to drive cautiously in snow. I used to love sitting near intersections on snow days and just watch the people like hauling butt up the roadways. Sped limit says 35, they do the normal 45 and try to stop at the last possible second for a red light. Not pretty. I have even heard one woman saying she was going to sue ford because her Explorer has AWD and ABS and she still couldn't stop in time. I know some insurance companies penalize for 4wd or AWD because of people who do that stuff.

Another thing about Winter I love... my son's wrestling season starts soon 8)

Oh, and fireworks on New Year's Eve look awesome if there's snow on the ground.

and the whole "teaching your son how to write his name in the snow" thing!:purple:

some things i like about winter are, its cold, i get to drive sideways on the road - leagaly, its cold, that whole silence thing, its cold, throwing rooster tails with my RC cars, its cold, days off of work couse its too cold to paint, oh did i mention that its cold, thare is accualy weather. not just sun, sun, sun... yep im a cold weather person and as soon as i can afford my Jeep ill be having a blast playing in it (driving, sleding, boarding.) YAY WINTER.
