frame patches should only be done by a qulified welder. in my own opinion. haveing some one do it right is always a comfort, right? well in some states, like ny , you can not patch a frame unless you are a cretified welder. once its done its safe, sometimes better than new

It will need to be fish plated as well as fill welded. The crack will need to be stop drilled also. All of these should be done by a certified welder since the frame is heat treated, improper welding could distemper the frame here.

But once it is repaired you should have no worries, the repair will actually strengthen the frame in this area since the fish plate will add 3/16 of steel in this area.

weld a bead in the butt of the crack, grind it down flat, put a plate over it and burn it in, then paint over it so it wont rust. i see your from Duluth im from Hastings down by St. Paul, you ever go over to Ma and Pa Rockers over my Superior Wis, and Gilbert MN at all, gilbert is a fun place we go up there 2X a summer and were heading to Ma and Pa's first weekend of june.

I'm up at gilbert atleast 2 times a month in the summer. Never been to Ma and Pa's. I've heard that its a big horse power kinda place. Thats something i lack in with a 2.5. More of a rock and trail sort of guy.

Thanks to the rest of you guys for your input, I'll have someone else weld it then. Better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah Gilbert is a relly fun place. but the trails are getting ripped to hell since we've been there last, we attempted lower money talks and turned back once we got to the log in the hole it was insane, and we have pretty capable rigs with 93.5"+ tires.

Lower money has gotten to be quite the trail. I remember when the park opened I could take my jeep with 31's down it. Now you practically need 44's to get though the muck or a lot o' flex to get though the rock garden. I guess they made a few new trails since last year. Headin' up on the 22nd and 23rd of next month to stretch the legs of the ole jeep out, its been a long and wheelless winter.
