cruise control

Has anyone ever added cruise to their jeep before? I was wondering about how much an addition like that costs. Yes, I realize that everyone here is probably laughing because my "mod" is cruise control, but I'm just building my jeep to suit my needs. O1 Wrangler, manual, looks like there might be a light on the dash that says cruise but I don't have cruise. Want cruise. Please let me know if you've added this before. Thanks. [addsig]

you might want to ask a service manager at a Jeep dealership. I looked around when I first got my 99 TJ and I think it was like $300 or so, mabey more. That's if you install it yourself. You can add another $400 if you want them to do it. Do you have a 2.5l or a 4.0l? Will make a difference.[addsig]

It is a 4.0 and there is no way I could put it in myself. I'd ask one of the men in my family, but that just scares me b/c they can't just fix one thing, they've got to tinker w/ the whole damn car, and I'd get it back and it'd like have monster tires and be twenty feet off the ground. In fact, my love for jeeps started when I feel in love with a sweet little cj my uncles had disassembled. It was strung out all over the place, and I'm like five years old going "poor little car"! Anyway, as you can see I'll be taking it to the dealer. You think around $700, then? Oh, and why does it matter if it is a 4.0 or not??? [addsig]

You should try to find a mechanic to do it instead of going to the dealer. They will rip you off. Plus you can buy the cruise control from somewhere else cheaper and have the mechanic put it in. If you go to the dealer and you did not get the parts from them they won't do it. They have cruise controls in JCwhitney catalog or .com from between 189.99- 239.99. If you use it a lot you will use more gas. [addsig]

Cruise control doesnt make you use more gas as long as you know how to use it. While you are "cruising" cruise control works great. But you lose you gas mileage when you encounter a steep incline and you jeep wants to maintain that speed so it gets your engine going faster where as a gas saving person would just let the hill slow you down a little and make up the speed on the down slope. I bought my sister a cruise for her Cherokee sport from JCWhitney for $80 and it works great. I put it in myself (its not that bad) but she did get quotes from the local shop for $250 to install. Ask around a few places.

Saharas have the 4.0 engine and come from the factory with cruise control. I love that option.

The Sahara comes w/ cruise? That's awesome. I'm actually not sure what mine is. I think it is classified as a sport, but it is a little fancier. It is one of the anniversary editions that came out in 01, and to me it is somewhere between a sport and a sahara. I knew I wanted a jeep- I did not even care if it was old or new. However, I saw this one on the lot in the fall of 01, and I just loved it. Luckily it came w/ almost all the extras, because I was pretty uninformed about all the possible extras. (tow hooks? subwoof what?) I'm really pretty surprised it does not have cruise, but I guess a wrangler is not really considered a highway vehicle. I might bite the bullet and have my uncle install the cruise, maybe he'd let me drive his old army jeep while mine is being worked on...yeah, right. Thanks for the tips, I'll let you all know how things turn out.[addsig]

Wait a minute... you said he would take it and work it over? instead of just doing the cruise control? If I could take someting somewhere from cruise control, and get it back with monster meats and 60 inches of lift.... I'D DO IT[addsig]

I agree with snitty....free lift and some nice tires sound good to me...and if he can throw in the cruise it sounds like your set :)[addsig]
