Cummins Jeep

I have a 95 YJ with the 2.5 L in it and I'm looking for more power on a budget. I was looking at a small block but with prices at the pump going back up the diesel is looking more economical. I was wondering what kind of modifications I would have to do to fit a 5.9 under the hood. I've heard of the 4bt being swapped in but not a 5.9. Looking for some information and tips.

I've seen one done in Corpus christi Texas awhile back. The 5.9 was dropped in an 82 CJ7. i didn't look at it long enough to notice everything that had to be done. From what i could tell from the engine compartment and frame, He had to extend the engine compartment along with the frame work reinforcement. Sorry, but that's all i remember about it.

I have a 2004.5 HO 5.9 in my 2500. It has some Banks add on's and it has plenty of power to do what i ask of it. That swap would be sick.

You would need at least a dana 60 front end to hold up the weight of that monster. 5.9 weighs in at 1300 pounds so you would also need a lot of frame reinforcing. I would almost think it would be easier to set your tub on a dodge frame and stretch the body to fit. But I do agree it would be sick. I have an 05 with a bunch of toys on it and even in the dodge the tires will light up with the turbo in third and fourth. I am a cummins fanatic so if you do this swap i want pictures. On second thought, I wanna go for a ride.

You would need to stretch the front clip, replace the entire drivetrain with 1 ton stuff. The frame,,,well it will not last and I don't even know if trying to strengthen it would last either.
Like was said it is very heavy. I have a 4bt TJ and that engine weighs as much as a big block. I currently have the TJ set up with a TH475, NP205, D60, Sterling 10.25.

I've been looking and shortening the dodge chassis to fit the jeep tub seems to be the most practical. In the process of looking for a rolling chassis at the moment
