disck braking a Ford 9

Another question is will my master cylinder be able to push the right amount of fluid to these disc brakes?

i'm no expert on conversions but w/the rear, it should be ok w/the orig. master cyl but more than likely youre gonna need a new adjustable proportioning valve - as for the rims - depends on the disc setup (clearances and all...) - what did the donor run?

I don't know where to get a better proportioning valve made for my master cylinder. There is no donor yet, I am looking around, but most ford 9's have drums.

Get a 9" off of a 79 lincoln. It has the disc brakes. Summit has the adjustable valve. Just gave away all of my 9" stuff. Is the motor in yet?

i was going to say that lincoln was the usual donor for 9" back in my mustang days - and most likely it had 15" rims so clearance isnt a problem and yea... summit or jegs will have the valve that just goes inline twds the rear brakes

Just wondering, what will the valve help? I thought the only real problem would be pushing the right amount of fluid to the calipers. Is this 79 Lincoln 9" a good strong one?

Hey Vic, No the motor isn't in. Last week I took the t case apart and I am having trouble getting the planetary gears apart. Tonight I took off the entire front end (fenders, grille, wires, computer).
Where do you stand?

you want about an 80/20 force w/the brakes... (80 being the front) - so you want to be able to adjust it so the rear doesnt lock up all the time (as disc's grab more than drums) - thats where the adj. valve comes in - you can just turn a knurled wheel on top to add/delete pressure to the rear and yes... the lincoln seems to be relatively bullet proof... you can always check the aftermarket for a full on custom one but you'll end up spending mucho more $$$$ for it...

The Lincoln Versaille(sp?) rearend is the most sought after part in the world by classic Rustang owners. It's a 31 spline, heavy housing, with disc brakes and the small 5 lug pattern. Good luck finding one for a decent price, and then even more luck to you when it comes to finding a matching front axle. Are you swapping the front out too? If not, what about a 31 spline 8.8" from an Exploder? Same pattern as your factory front, disc brakes, and it's stronger than half of the 9" axles you will find in the junkyard. Most of them are new enough they won't need to be rebuilt either. The C-clips aren't a concern with rear discs.
If you want a 9", contact Currie for the best way to mount a modern and much more effective disc setup than ever came factory on any of them, which is the disc setup you will find on an Explorer 8.8".

Ya, the late 70s Lincoln Versailles (SP?) 9" is a primo rearend 'cause of the strength, width, discs, and emergency parking brake set-up. A little known fact.... don't ever walk past a late 70s Granada or Monarch without looking at the rearend as it was an option (although very rare to find) on those 2 cars (standard on the Lincoln, I believe) LBR
