DIY Snorkel????

Hey guys I'm looking into making my own snorkel for my 2004 Jeep wrangler TJ. Snorkels are way to expensive to buy for me. ARB wants upwards from $400 just for pieces of plastic. I was doing some online research and stumbled upon this link http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billav...el/snorkel.htm Know I know it's a Cherokee and all but would this work for a Tj. Also would my stock air intake work? I like the design because it is low profile and for the deep water crossings I can just extend it.

Something that folks can lose sight on when buying a snorkel, save for those of us that are former Marines whom have driven M151 jeeps. For fording not only the intake needs a snorkel......

when off loading from landing craft it ws important that the exhaust would be above water as well~otherwise it's similar to the old bananna up the tail pipe.

I like to yarn the tale of the procedure of driving these off the landing craft;
Note the two snorkels are above the cab? The driver doesn't get a snorkel (those are for the swabbies~just kiddin')
Before off loading you'd push the foot throttle down about 1/3 -1/2 and pull out the hand throttle, then stand on the body tub rail with your right hand on the steering wheel, and keeping your chin up!
Go figure, I always find a beachbreak hole~blub blub

This was the procedure even when my departed father was in the Marines;

That's awesome. My exhaust has been submerged in water for over an hour before the engine was still running to it kept blowing water out.

as long as you dont stall, it will be fine. upon restart, water can get sucked into the engine by vacum if under water. Probably all of our exhausts have been under water at some point, just dont restart if under water. get pulled out first.

Thanks for the advice

Well, as Emily Latella said "Never mind" I'm puzzled that this is superfluous as the exhaust extension has been used in the military for 40 years between the time my dad was in and I.
